Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
In our small little cabin out in the woods, on our bed in the corner, I was very blessed to be able to deliver each of my children into this world. To catch them as they came out of the womb is an amazing thing to be a part of. It is an unforgettable experience to see a child take its very first breath. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. I think that these moments surpass any others in my entire life. But as children grow, sometimes they might get a sniffle or a cough, or other ailment. During these moments, my wife would come to me and ask me to put oil on the children. I did it, in the name of Jesus, and they were always healed.
James 5:13-15 ¹³ Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. ¹⁴ Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: ¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
I am completely convinced of the healing power, through faith in Christ Jesus. I have experienced it numerous times in my own life. One summer month, my wife thought I was going to die because of an affliction that was going through my body. Over many weeks I lost over 100 pounds, and my family was starting to get worried. But I waited patiently upon the Lord, knowing that He could completely heal me. He had done it before, and He would do it again. That was over 14 years ago. Whenever my wife or children have been sick, they asked me to anoint them with oil, and like myself, they were all healed from every ailment that they have ever had. People can be healed in the church, and it begins with a prayer of faith, conducted by men who are faith-righteous. Scriptures teach that the prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Faith-righteousness is the righteousness that comes from the understanding that God will do above all that we ask or think. Men of strong faith are unwavering, knowing that nothing is impossible with God. They believe in the healing power of Christ Jesus. Men such as these are called to pray and anoint the sick with oil, and they will be healed. This is the same type of Faith that Abraham had.
Romans 4:19-22 ¹⁹ And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: ²⁰ He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; ²¹ And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. ²² And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Moses had this same faith, trusting in God completely at the banks of the Red Sea. He knew in his heart that God would deliver them from the Egyptians.
Hebrews 11:29 “By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.”
When people come forward to be anointed with oil, they activate their faith. God watches from heaven, and sees their faith in action and rewards them with both physical healing and forgiveness.
Luke 5:17-26 ¹⁷ And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. ¹⁸ And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. ¹⁹ And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. ²⁰ And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. ²¹ And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? ²² But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? ²³ Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? ²⁴ But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. ²⁵ And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. ²⁶ And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.
There is a very close correlation between sin and healing. Jesus warned people to go and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon thee. Sin can produce harmful repercussions in one’s physical life. When people openly rebel against the will of God, it can result in suffering and tribulation caused because of impenitent hearts. Not all disease or ailments are the result of somebody sinning. Job was persecuted in his flesh not because of something that he had done wrong, but because the devil persecuted him. Nonetheless, those who profess to be Christian yet choose to openly rebel against God, can enter into great afflictions in their flesh. It’s clear that God brings tribulation upon certain people, just as he did to pharaoh and his country in Egypt. God smote them with plagues and disease. This was the result of Pharaoh’s hardness of his heart. God is not mocked and whatever you sow, you are going to reap.
He reaches out from the cross to forgive those who humbly repent, but can punish the impenitent. There are all kinds of plagues and sufferings that will come upon this Earth during the tribulation period because people rejected the will of God. To be physically healed and forgiven with God begins with a humble and penitent heart, which he will not despise. In the aforementioned scripture passage, these men faithfully and humbly brought their friend to be healed, and when Jesus saw their faith, he was immediately healed and completely forgiven for his sins. In the church, when you possess the faith to come forward to have men of God pray and anoint you with oil, you can be healed not only physically, but spiritually. So on the one hand, a penitent sinner can be healed and forgiven, while the arrogant unrepentant sinner can suffer in the pain and agony of their own diseases. Just as you might punish your own children in your own home, God punishes too. He punishes rebellion and disobedience to His purpose and will. Some people suffer from sickness because they refuse to humble themselves under the mighty hand of God.
Healing through the gospel of Christ can happen through humble obedience to the will of God. God’s will is having a faith-righteous man pray for you, a man who knows and believes in the healing power of God. It is also required for you to come forth to be anointed with oil. When you draw nigh to God, He will draw nigh to you, and will mercifully begin…..
