Tall Glass of Water

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

It’s been claimed that our human body is about 66% water, and sometimes when I think about it, it’s really hard to comprehend that fact. I guess we really are a tall drink of water! It’s no wonder that our fingers and toes get so cold in the winter, or that we feel like a snow cone when we come in from the raging blizzard outside. The next time that you drink a tall glass of water, you must remember that 2/3 of it is what composes your entire body. That’s amazing isn’t it! Water is something that surrounds our everyday lives, but sometimes we don’t even think about it. It’s found in the foods that we eat and the things that we drink. Water is something that every human on the face of this Earth shares in common.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

But just like the air that we breathe or the water that we drink, there is something that each of us share in common with the rest of humanity. All of us are sinners. The human body is made up mostly of water, and like water in our system, sin is something that each of us possess inside.

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

There is a difference between a man and a woman. There is a difference between a parent and a child. But the one thing that each of us share universally is that all of us have sinned. I’m sure a lot of people don’t want to accept that simple truth, but at one time or the other, each of us have sinned in the sight of God. Because each of us has the same problem, repentance is required. This means that we need to become something different then what we were in our past. Like doing a u-turn on the highway, we need to change direction in the way that we are living our lives. All of us are equal in the fact that we were each born into sin, and nobody is exempt from that fact.

Psalms 51:5  Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

The only way to enter into eternal life, is to believe in the Savior that the Father sent to this world. His name is Jesus Christ, who died as an atonement for each of us. The sins that each of us have committed must be expunged before the day of judgment, and this will only happen through faith in Christ.

John 8:23-24  And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.  I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Because of pride, many people refuse to admit their own faults. But as much as they might deceive themselves, we are all created equal, sinners. The proud Pharisee couldn’t seem to understand this fact.

Luke 18:9-14  And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:  Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.  I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

It doesn’t matter who a person is, whether Jew or gentile, all of us have sinned. This is why Jesus came to the world, as a lamb of God and atonement for our misdeeds. We are all equal, because we are all sinners who need to come to Christ for forgiveness.

Romans 3:9-31  What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:  Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.  Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.  Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.  Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

All of us are sinners, but many people don’t want to own up to that fact. Eternal life is available to each of us, but repentance is required. When it comes to sin, each of us needs to understand that each of us are a……
