Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
How many times have you gone to the grocery store, and brought home a big basketful of fruit to put on your kitchen table? It’s nice to have them readily available for a quick snack, but after being left out for a few days, they will begin to get soft. Like bananas, they will start to turn color because they have been exposed to the elements. Once this happens, corruption is not too far behind, because they will eventually spoil and rot.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Just like fruit can become spoiled, so can one’s conservative faith. Instead of remaining firm in their beliefs, they begin to soften up and embrace the philosophies and elements of this world. The true faith that they once believed, can become corrupted because they start to listen and accept the teachings of this world, rather than the truth of God’s Holy Word. When this happens, their faith becomes spoiled like a piece of old fruit.
Colossians 2:6-10 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
How many times have you walked into somebody’s backyard, and there was a sign that said beware of the dog? How many times have you been driving through a mountain pass and a sign said beware of falling rocks? Sometimes in Northern Minnesota, we will get an extremely bitter snowstorm. A warning will go out on the radio telling people to beware of traveling or venturing out onto the highway. To beware is to be very cautious and alert to dangers that can come to pass, and you must pay close attention, so that you don’t get hurt.
Philippians 3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
2 Peter 3:16-17 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
When you beware, you will watch out, and be on your guard, standing against the things of this world that deviate from scriptural truth. You will need to take great heed to avoid these people, as they try to combine the false doctrines of this world with Christianity. For example, many people who profess to be Christian have bought into the nonsensical theory of evolution. They have allowed women to teach God’s Word, along with the open acceptance of fornication and homosexuality. The Church must beware, and be a castle of Truth against the surrounding moat of sin. These activities are not going to be in heaven, and are the behaviors of impenitent sinners. They only want to corrupt your pure faith by getting you to accept and tolerate these anti-biblical doctrines. Beware, and again I say Beware. These people need to be marked out, because they don’t love Jesus enough to turn away and repent of their sins. The Christian life is not about rebellion, it is about humble obedience to the will of God.
Romans 16:17-20 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
True unity in a church is based upon the acceptance of the teachings of God’s Holy Word, but many people in these latter days have tried to combine the teachings of scripture with the rudiments of this world. When they succumb to a worldly Church view, the true faith in them is being corrupted. Instead of believing the truth, they start to believe a lie. In that state, it’s no longer a faithful and conservative group of believers, but a hodgepodge of disobedient living, filled with those who attempt to turn you away from the Word of God. They preach tolerance to sin, rather than preaching the truth. They want you to love them more than God. Beware, because these types of people can really spoil your faith.
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
The church is not supposed to be influenced by the world, but by the teachings of Christ. Be not deceived brethren, but take heed unto the doctrine.
Hebrews 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines…
1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
It’s no wonder why these things are going on in so many false Church groups today. The Apostle Peter prophesied that this was going to happen.
2 Peter 2:1-2 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
The worldly form of Christianity so prevalent today, only wants to convince you that sin is acceptable. They want to obtain eternal life without repentance. They want you to accept things that go completely against the teachings of Christ. There is truth and there is error, and we are never to try to mix the teachings of our faith with the rudiments of this world. It’s like mixing mud into pure water, and will only pollute one’s mind.
The disciples would stir up people’s pure minds by way of remembrance. Beware, lest you also become deceived by the world, and your faith becomes corrupted, just like a piece of….
