Searching For Treasure

Many of us as children have grand ideas that pop into our heads that we will find a big pile of treasure hidden in a chest in the ground. I know I certainly did. I can remember taking a cheap toy metal detector and slowly searching in the ground, fully convinced that I would eventually find something worth a lot of money. I would wave the metal detector back and forth across the ground, until I would hear a “beep”. Excitedly I would begin to dig, wondering what I had found. Most of the time it would turn out to be nothing much at all, sometimes it would be an old nail or a pop top from a soda can, other times I would find old toy cars or other small things. And while I never did ever find anything that had any value, all of that searching taught me the importance of seeking for something that you don’t have, and it has served me well in my faith in Jesus Christ.

It takes a seeking attitude to find treasure, just like it takes a seeking heart to obtain the things of God.

Matthew 7:7-8  “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

When you seek for something it means to try to find, to look or search for. Also, to ask for, or to try to acquire or gain.

But just as with everything else on Earth, the treasure under our oceans only last so long. Eventually they will all fade away. This is why it is far more important to spend our time seeking for the treasure that will last forever.

During many treasure hunts, clues will be left behind for you to follow to find the next clue, until eventually you find the treasure itself. The Bible contains all of the information that we need to find that prize of eternal life in God’s kingdom. Step by step, day after day we are in pursuit of that prize, completing each task set before us, and moving onto the next.

You cannot find a treasure unless you go out looking for it. That is the point of a treasure hunt. You need to seek for it if you want to find it. But unlike the prize of a treasure hunt on the Earth, where only one person can receive it, the prize that Jesus offers is available to everyone who follows His message.

Colossians 3:1-2  “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

You need to believe the messages that Jesus has placed in His Bible. All the information is already there, and all we need to do is go and look for it. Search the scriptures, for therein lies salvation. Seek after God, and He will reward you.

Hebrews 11:6  “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

The kingdom of heaven is at hand!  It’s time to go out and find it. The hunt has already begun, go out and find that treasure!

In Christ,

Andrew
