The Video Rental

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

When I was in high school I used to go to the video store to rent VHS tapes to watch over the weekend. Renting movies was kind of a new thing back then, because the only movies that you could normally watch were ones that were available occasionally on the television. With the new boom of video stores, all you needed to do was buy a VHS player, and you had access to all kinds of different information.

As I browsed through the aisles of the local video store, I noticed that many of the movies dealt with corruption, not only in local police departments, but within the court system as well. Although many of them were labeled as fiction, they were not fiction at all. Some of the most corrupt and wicked people in this world are in very high places of authority. They don’t use the justice system to promote what is good and right, but to promote their own evils, and to cover up their own wickedness. Some people want to be a lawyer, not to do what’s right, but to make hundreds of dollars an hour. Some people want to be a governor not to do what is just, but to run drugs and launder money.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Although we are surrounded by a world of injustice, God is watching and His justice will prevail because He will avenge His suffering children.

Luke 18:2-8  Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?bI tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

All places of authority in this world, from a dad over his own household, to a judge in a courtroom are under the authority of Christ Jesus. Many of them do not use their authority in a just manner, but are corrupt in their duties and activities. Pilot had the ability to free Jesus, but he succumbed to the will of the people. Some prosecuting attorneys in this world have sold their souls to the devil to advance their own wicked agenda. Although their sinful activities are temporarily hidden from public view, they are not hidden from the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God sees everything they do. It’s amazing to think that people who wield authority don’t think that they will have to answer to God’s authority in the future. Although they might wear a three-piece suit, they are no different than those whom they condemn. Each moment of their life is observed as God watches all of their immoral behaviors. There is absolutely nothing that is hidden from His sight. All authority has been created by the Lord Jesus Christ and for Him, but that doesn’t mean that all these places are just. They can become corrupted because of politics, their desire for riches, or other evil intentions.

Pharaoh had a great place of authority that was granted to him by God, but he used it in an unjust manner. He even attempted to murder the first born of Israel. Some of these same people are in high places in Earthly courtrooms today, who are the murderers of children and mothers. God is going to plague them with sickness and disease, because they are not above God’s punishment. It is perfectly just that they suffer in such a manner. Some people are so ignorant, that they think God has changed since the Old Testament. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. To be just, God must and will punish the wicked. The Lord was so ticked off with Miriam, she experienced the same thing, when she spoke out against Moses.

Numbers 12:5-15  And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.

And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed. And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous. And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.

Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother’s womb.

And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee. And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.  And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

God can punish people with sickness and disease. God is not mocked and whatever you sow is what you are going to reap. You don’t think God is going to punish iniquity? Don’t think that all sins go unpunished on the Earth. Those who think such things have no fear of God. They will reap the wages for their activities. It doesn’t matter who you are, whether you are a mother, a governor or a king. Some people feel that they are somehow exempt from punishment, but I guarantee you that they will experience it first hand. God loves us so much that he laid down His own life so that we would change our ways. But these people in high places of authority, who refuse to serve the cause of justice, are going to have an appointment with the God of justice, and very quickly.

2 Peter 2:9  The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

There are many people in high places of authority in this world, who have not been chosen because of their righteous record. They were picked because of their willingness to subvert justice and further the cause of insubordination to the truth. Authority does not corrupt people, it is people who corrupt authority. Guns don’t kill people, it is people who use guns to kill others. There is wickedness that surrounds many high places of government in the world today, and those who don’t believe that are completely naive. Many people gain access to these places only to further the cause of wickedness. In today’s modern world court systems, many of them have been overrun by the unjust, gaining access to high places of authority, so they can use government agencies to pave their highways, to lessen their own taxes, and to silence political opponents.

2000 years ago, people did the same kinds of things. They wore fancy robes, and proclaimed themselves as just and good men. They loved their robes and to be seen in them, completely enamored with the attention, but the truth is that inwardly they were wicked and evil. The Apostle Paul actively fought against these types of people who wielded authority unjustly. Jesus condemned their hypocrisy.

Matthew 23:25-28  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Some people who pursue places of justice in this world are no different than an actor. They didn’t have what it took to become famous in the movies,  so they became a judge or Court official instead. They want notoriety and to be seen by others, like a woman who becomes a newscaster simply because she couldn’t get a gig in a movie. Their motive is just to be on TV and be seen, only to further their own agenda. Pride is not only sinful, it is insane. Some of them are no different than the religious leaders of Jesus’ day, who liked to be seen in robes, but were complete hypocrites.

Matthew 6:5  And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Patiently watch what God will do in the near future. He is not mocked nor made a fool out of. God pursues justice each and every hour of the day and is watching those who pervert the cause of Truth. His Justice will come speedily, prevailing over all seats of injustice in this world. God will punish those who have sold their souls to the devil, taking bribes and political favors.

I will warn any man in a place of authority, that God is not a figment of one’s imagination, and corruption will be openly punished and exposed to all. Don’t mess with God, or you will find your own life completely messed up. Your life will go haywire, as heavenly justice will happen swiftly and speedily upon your own heads.

I guarantee that you don’t want your life to end up like the final chapter in one of the movies that I used to borrow from…..
