Have you ever noticed when a dog or cat has babies, sometimes at least one of those babies looks exactly like its parent? They might look nearly identical in every way, except just a little bit smaller. It’s almost as though they are looking in a mirror when they look at each other.
Go to a grocery store and you will find all sorts of food, rows upon rows of it. Head over to the soda pop aisle and you will find small bottles, and large bottles. They might be different sizes, but they are still the exact same thing.
That is how we as Christians want to look like to others. We want the world to see Jesus working in our lives. He is the example that we need to mirror ourselves after, in everything that we do. Would he do this, would he do that. How would He act, how would He speak. While we are not Jesus Christ Himself, we want to completely copy the way that He lived.
That is truly what it means to be a follower of Jesus. A follower is a person who follows another in regard to their ideas or beliefs. It is a person who imitates or copies, or takes as a model.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1) He wrote many of the books of the New Testament, filled with wisdom and teachings for us to follow. Paul was a man filled with the Holy Spirit, ordained by Jesus to be an apostle for Him, and he is a great example to look to of how we should live.
Paul worked tirelessly for the Lord, in times of peace and in times of peril. When people hated him for his belief in Christ, he continued on and didn’t let that affect him. He kept going. He continued to live in the way that Jesus taught.
There are many families that have done the same occupation for generations. They all mirrored the same lifestyle as the one who started it all. Well, Jesus also did the work of His Father.
“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verly, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what the things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.” John 5:19-21
Jesus mirrored the example of His Father. He is the exact replica of His Father. In fact, when Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father, Jesus told him, “…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” (John 14:9)
Let your life be a beacon that shines for Christ. Every action that you make, and every word that you speak, be just like Christ!
In Christ,
Andrew
