Good Morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before that I wanted to ask you a little question.
Would you consider yourself a hard worker? When you are fully engaged at your place of employment, good things can happen. When you focus energetically on your job, with the intention of pleasing your employer, you can be rewarded with an increase in wages, and be promoted to a higher position. When people work hard training for the Olympics, they can be rewarded by obtaining first place and a gold medal. When you keep busy at school and earnestly study each day, you can eventually achieve a reward for your efforts. Your teacher will give you an “A” and post your name on the honor roll. It’s foolish to think that you will be rewarded for anything in your life without some diligent effort.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
God is capable of rewarding us in many different ways, but before they are granted, we must first prove by our actions that we love Him, and desire to obey His will. When you obey God, just watch, because His blessings and rewards will quickly follow.
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Revelation 22:12
How many of you children have walked out the door to go to school when your parents told you to be good? Throughout the scriptures, our God and Father of all goodness teaches us to be good and obedient children. He rewards this behavior, because as He is, so are we in this world. When we do those things that please Him, His favor and benefits shall come to pass.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
Over the centuries, the teachings of God’s Word have come to be known as the Good Book, given to us to guide us on the path of righteousness. It exhorts, rebukes, and disciplines us, for the purpose of correcting us, so that we can become God’s perfect children. When we submit ourselves to the will of God, and walk according to His purpose, God will certainly reward that endeavor.
Romans 8 ²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Good things will happen to all those who truly love God and humbly obey His will. In order to receive this blessing, we must do what is good; we must do what is right; and we must do as we are told. We must prove our love through our actions of obedience towards His commands and teachings. To love God perfectly, is to obey God perfectly.
John 14 ²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. ²⁴ He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
To obtain a blessing from God, we must depart from our sins and walk in His light.
“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19
Whatever acts of goodness and obedience to God that we pursue, our efforts will be rewarded.
“Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.” Ephesians 6:8
We must seek to be on God’s honor roll, knowing that He will reward those who obediently serve Him.
Romans 2. ⁷ To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: ⁸ But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; ¹⁰ But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: ¹¹ For there is no respect of persons with God.
Our God is perfectly just, and will reward people accordingly. If you do good, good things will happen. If you do evil, His punishments await you.
“O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.” Psalms 31:23
“The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.” Proverbs 11:18
Galatians 6. ⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
⁸ For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Remuneration of our rewards, whether good or bad, are not just at judgment Day, but will come to pass while here upon the Earth.
“Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.” Proverbs 11:31
“The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.” Psalms 18:20
“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”
Matthew 16:27
God will faithfully deliver His saints, a reward for those who fear and respect Him.
Psalms 34 ⁷ The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. ⁸ O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. ⁹ O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
It is quite evident that God can reward us with innumerable blessings, but we must diligently seek Him, serve Him, and obey Him. These things must first come to pass in our lives, if we ever expect to be on His….
