Sea of Tranquility

Good Morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Back in May of 1961, President Kennedy announced to a special joint session of Congress an eager desire to land a man safely on the moon before the end of the decade. To make this happen, there were a lot of things that needed to be done beforehand. The Apollo 11 mission only took 4 days 6 hours and 45 minutes, but preparations began many years earlier in order to reach their final destination safely. It’s been claimed that it took eight years, ten practice run missions, and nearly half a million engineers before they were eventually ready to launch the three man crew towards the moon. The crew had logged 14-hour training days for 6 days a week, and tirelessly prepared for the trip that they would eventually embark on. Finally on July 16,1969, at 9:32 a.m. Eastern time, the Apollo 11 spacecraft launched from Cape Kennedy, taking them to the Moon, where they would eventually touch down safely in the Sea of Tranquility.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

It takes many years of preparation to complete certain objectives, and the greatest goal that you could ever strive to attain, is being able to enter into Paradise. Today is the day of salvation, and we must begin our pre-flight preparations, right now. We must begin training ourselves and be transformed from sinners into saints, making preparations beforehand for the trip that each of us must take, so that we can safely arrive at our eternal destination.

Matthew 25 ¹ Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.  ² And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.  ³ They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:  ⁴ But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.  ⁵ While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.  ⁶ And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. ⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.  ⁸ And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.  ⁹ But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.  ¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. ¹² But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. ¹³ Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Think of all the preparation that goes into a wedding. Invitations need to be sent out, meals need to be planned and dates need to be set up. Complete organization beforehand must take place, from the type of flowers, to the color of the bridesmaids dresses. The wedding party will even have a few rehearsals just to make sure that they get it right on that final day. A Christian needs to go through the same types of preparations, practicing their faith each day. Their life on Earth is a rehearsal for the world that is coming later on in Paradise. Think about how many years Noah prepared for the coming flood. Each day was a process of getting ready for the judgment God was going to bring upon the Earth.

“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” Hebrews 11:7

Faith is a powerful thing because when you possess it, it can cause you to prepare for a future event. Noah had great faith, and he got ready for what was coming. If you really believe you will be going on a fishing trip this weekend, faith can cause you to get ready beforehand. You will go to the gas station and fill the truck up with gas, checking the fluid levels and the air pressure in the tires. You will pack up the tents, restring your fishing rods, and organize the tackle box, making sure not to forget food and water. You will hook up your boat, or strap your canoe onto your vehicle. It is a common thing for people to prepare in their daily lives, but if you truly believe in the resurrection of the dead, you will prepare yourselves right now for God’s coming judgment. You will take advantage of God’s incredible gift of grace, and depart from sinfulness, getting ready now for God’s everlasting Kingdom of righteousness. God wants us to be prepared, because He is prepared.

“Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” Matthew 25:34

Each day is another opportunity to get ready, but instead of redeeming the time, many people tend to squander it away. Instead of doing what needs to be done today, they put things off until tomorrow, a day which might never come. The parable of the foolish virgins is ultimately a passage about procrastination. Each day, they kept putting things off, until eventually it was too late to do anything about it. Although many health experts claim to know the longevity of one’s life, health has nothing to do with God’s decision when He will take your soul from the Earth. Life and death is entirely in His hands. Today is the day of salvation, and now is the moment of repentance.

“Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.” Revelation 3:3

God is preparing a new kingdom, and we must begin to prepare ourselves for that heavenly home.

John 14 ² In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. ³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Remember that it took many years of preparation to  finally land on the Moon. We too, must get ready for the world that is coming, if we want to obtain eternal rest, and eventually, touchdown in Gods …
