With the advancement of technology it has become increasingly easier to get news out to the world. Before things such as the telegram or even the telephone, news had to be delivered from person to person by word of mouth or letter. An event may have taken place days, weeks, or even months earlier, but because that news had to be delivered physically it was sometimes very difficult to learn about such things.
Fast forward to today and you can have the news basically in your fingertips in your phone, TV, or computer, sometimes exactly when it is happening. The times certainly have changed in this way, and it is so much easier to inform people. But still, that news needs to be put out there by someone. Someone has to report it on a news broadcast, or type up a webpage. After all, if no one spreads the news, no one will hear about anything.
Similarly, how can people know about Jesus unless someone tells them about what He did for them on the cross? How can they believe in Jesus and accept Him as their Savior if no one talks to them about Him?
Romans 10:13-15 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
This is the duty of a preacher. A preacher spreads the knowledge of Christ’s love to others, and teaches them the word of God. They are spiritual farmers, planting seeds of faith into the hearts of those who have not heard about Jesus, as well as tending their current flock. Not every seed of faith will take root, grow, and mature, as it says in Matthew 13, but it is the duty of that preacher to continue on planting those new seeds into hearts.
The world needs to hear about Jesus. Although they may not know it yet, they need Christ’s saving grace. They need to come to Him so that they too can live forever with Jesus in His kingdom. But it is not going to get done by itself. A store will not sell anything if they don’t let the public know they are there.
Christian men everywhere need to grab their Bibles and start spreading the Word. They need to let others know that there is something that everyone needs, that there is Someone that they need. They need Jesus. The laborers are few, so do as much as you can in the name of Christ!
Luke 10:2 “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”
It is time to spread the good news about Christ.
In Christ,
Andrew
