Flame of Fire

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture from the book of Hebrews, but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a little question.

Have you ever noticed how the world really hates when people start defining what is morally right or wrong? The message of repentance towards Christ brings great reproach. This is because we live in a world that is filled with lies and deceivers, and the last thing that many of them want to hear is the truth. Their eyes have been blinded by the god of this world. The impenitent don’t want to hear that they need to change their ways in order to obtain eternal life. They don’t want to hear about eternal punishment or divine consequences for their immoral behavior. They want everybody to get along and to live their own lives the way that they choose, which is probably the same way that Sodom and Gomorrah felt right before they were destroyed by God. The truth of the Gospel does not bring peace to the unrepentant, and they will resist it as much as possible.

In this world there is light and darkness. There is truth and there are lies. There is righteousness and wickedness. Not everybody is going to get along, because not all men have faith. Some are serving Christ and some are not. Jesus didn’t come to send peace on the Earth, but to divide, which happens through the preaching of scriptural truth. His ministers are a flame of fire, set forth to shed light upon the darkness of this world.

“And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.” Hebrews 1:7

What would you see if God suddenly turned on the light at 2:00 a.m.? I’m sure you would find a lot of wickedness in progress, and those who are involved with it would quickly run away into the darkness, rather than being seen. Men of God are a light of righteousness, who reprove the wicked deeds of darkness in this sinful world.

.John 3 ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

“But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.” Ephesians 5:13

Each day the world grows darker, as people are less inclined to accept the truth. These things are just a precursor of God’s fiery judgment that will come upon this Earth. Judgment has been given to the saints of Christ Jesus, men of God who are filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit, to execute judgment upon the ungodly.

Jude 1 ¹⁴ And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, ¹⁵ To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” 1 Peter 4:17

The saints are endued with power from on high. They are given the ability to forgive the humble, or bind the impenitent to eternal damnation. As I’ve said throughout the years, you don’t want to mess with a Saint. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter condemned Ananias and Sapphira to death and they immediately died on the spot. These are judgments that await all those who are going to mock God.

Acts 5 ⁸ And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. ⁹ Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. ¹⁰ Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. ¹¹ And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

“Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.” 1 Timothy 5:24

Faithful servants of Christ, who are filled with the Holy Spirit, have great power and authority given to them by the Lord Jesus.

“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: Luke 4:14

“And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.” Luke 4:32

“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:49

The Lord Jesus gives His saints the power to become sons of God.

John 1 ¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

¹³ Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

The Apostle Paul cared for the church greatly, but if they were going to mock him and the things that he was teaching, they were going to see the power of God as he began to clean house.

1 Corinthians 4 ¹⁸ Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you. ¹⁹ But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

²⁰ For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

Many people will claim… “who are you to judge me?”  But it is the saints who are given the authority to judge this world. It is not the spirit of man that judges, but the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 6 ¹ Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? ² Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? ³ Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

It is the Holy Spirit that reproves darkness and rebukes sin. It stands in opposition to the devils and their ungodly works. God’s ministers are a beacon of Truth, a manifestation of the light, and a Godly….
