Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture from 1st Corinthians.
“If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.” 1 Corinthians 16:22
There are numerous people who have claimed that the theory of “unconditional love” actually began back in the 1930s, and of all things, was put forth by an atheist. Many people who profess to be Christian adopted some of these secular beliefs, trying to combine them with the teachings of our faith. Over the years they have done the same thing with the theory of evolution, denying the Word of God for the word of men. It’s no wonder why so many false churches are so far away from the truth in Christ. It’s because they are the sons and daughters of heretics. To abide in God’s love requires certain conditions to be met, because if they are not, He will turn away from them at judgment Day. To abide in His love, requires obedience to His will.
John 14 ²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
²⁴ He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
We have the promise of eternal life, but it will only be given to those who love and obey Christ.
“Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?” James 2:5
God loves those who love Him. If people refuse to lovingly submit to the one who shed His own blood to pay the penalty for their sins, then their hope of salvation will be lost.
“I love them that love me;….Proverbs 8:17
Jesus called sinners to repent, but those who refuse to do that are outside of His love.
Proverbs 1 ²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
²⁵ But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: ²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; ²⁷ When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. ²⁸ Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: ³⁰ They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
Our relationship with God is certainly based upon certain conditions being met. To all of those who want to be saved from God’s eternal fire, listen closely. This world has a sin issue and if it is left unaddressed will result in eternal punishment by God. God sent Jesus as an atonement for our sins, and without faith in Him resulting in obedience to the things that He preached, you shall die in your sins. God through His incredible patience is waiting for more people to repent. Like Lot and his family were saved from Sodom and Gomorrah, God is waiting for people to repent before He ultimately destroys this world. God hates sin, and all those who are actively involved with it. All they are is a vessel of disobedience, and sin cannot abide in the presence of God.
“God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” Psalms 7:11
God’s favor is upon the righteous, but His punishments abide on the impenitent. Refusing to repent only produces arrogance and pride, which is an attribute of the devil. Those who live in such a manner abide not in God’s love, and are an abomination in His sight.
“Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.” Proverbs 16:5
“An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.” Proverbs 21:4
The Apostle Paul knew that some people were damned already because they had cast off their first faith. People lie to each other every day because they don’t care about them at all, but to truly love your neighbor is to tell them the truth. Repent or perish and flee from the wrath to come!
“And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.” Revelation 2:21
“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:” Revelation 9:20
“And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.” Revelation 16:9
“And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.” Revelation 16:11
God’s love is conditional because salvation requires a love for scriptural TRUTH.
“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10
Many people across the world claim to be followers of Christ Jesus, but are disobedient liars.
“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.” Titus 1:16
1 John 2 ³ And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. ⁵ But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
We are reconciled to God through Christ, given the opportunity to become a new person, but if the new creature does not emerge, salvation will ultimately be lost. God has made us acceptable in the beloved by washing us from our former sins. But those who refuse to walk in the light and depart from iniquity aren’t repenting of anything at all. They are simply a pig who was cleaned up for a while but jumped right back in the mud again. It would have been better off that they hadn’t been born.
2 Peter 2 ²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
²² But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
Unconditional love?
2 Corinthians 13 ¹ This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. ² I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:
When somebody uses the vain words of…” unconditional love “, remember this verse
“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.” Ephesians 5:6
People who choose to live in sin are to be rejected not embraced. They need to be rebuked, not hugged. They need to be warned of the fires of hell, not coddled. The ax is at the root of the tree, and if they don’t repent they shall be cut off.
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. Romans 11:22
The unconditional love that is needed for salvation, is an unconditional love for Christ Jesus, a love that is proven by our actions, and rewarded according to our faithful obedience.
