Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture from The book of Romans.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2
Christianity is more than just claiming to be a follower of Jesus, it is proving that you are a Christian by your faithful and obedient lives towards Him. We must show God how much we love Him, which will require complete submission to His commands and teachings. In a world that is filled with such disobedience and rebellion, it can be a cruel place for the man who is trying to walk in the perfect will of God. This is because the more that you love and obey God, the more hated by the world you will become. For example, the scriptures teach us that Abel loved God dearly, and gave a better sacrifice to Him than his brother. His selfless and faithful actions proved his sincere love for God, because of which he found favor in God’s sight. On the other hand, Cain hated his brother and eventually killed him because his own works were evil, and his brothers were righteous.
Genesis 4 ³ And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. ⁴ And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: ⁵ But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. ⁶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? ⁷ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. ⁸ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
Able proved the perfect and acceptable will of God, because of which, the blessings of God shined upon him.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” James 1:17
Jesus has always loved the heavenly Father perfectly, but just like Cain, certain Jews had Him crucified on the cross for the very same reasons, even Pilot recognized their envy towards Him.
Mark 15 ⁹ But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? ¹⁰ For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.
The world hates the righteous, because this is an unrighteous world. The world hates the obedient, because this is a disobedient world. The world hates the penitent, because this is an impenitent world. Nonetheless, we must strive each and every day to show God how much we love Him through our faithfulness and humble submission to His will. We must lovingly do whatever is required on our part to be found acceptable and pleasing in His sight, following the obedient example of our precious Lord Jesus.
“And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17
1 John 2 ⁵ But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. ⁶ He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
…….so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Romans 5:19
It’s remarkable how many people will actually pray the Lord’s prayer but not even consider the things that they are asking. They pray for God’s will to be done, but then completely reject His will through their disobedient and reprobate lives. It’s not Christianity, it’s only insincere religious activities just like Cain possessed. Consider the words of the beloved Apostle James.
James 1 ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
²³ For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
We learn the will of God through the knowledge of scripture, and one must take a close look at themselves, to see if they are truly walking in the will of God.
“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2 Corinthians 13:5
A reprobate chooses to deviate from the teachings of Christ, turning their ears away from the truth. In that one simple act, it only proves that they don’t truly love God from their heart.
2 Timothy 4 ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Look around at the huge form of false Christianity that is rising in the world today, which is a fulfillment of prophecy. Just as they resisted Moses in the past, now they resist the teachings of Christ.
2 Timothy 3 ⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
They claim to be a believer in Jesus, but openly sin against Him. They have no feelings of compunction in their heart because their conscience is so burned. They do religious things just like Cain did, but their hearts are far from God, resulting in works of the flesh and direct rebellion against the one who died for them on the cross.
Titus 1 ¹⁵ Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. ¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
We must prove our love for God by humbly submitting to His will.
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21
“For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.” 2 Corinthians 2:9
“But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.” 1 John 2:5
Those who possess a sincere love for God will keep His Word, because yelding oneself to His will, is the……
