Instant Replay

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

On the weekend there are many people who like to watch sporting events such as a game of baseball or tennis. Many years ago when people crushed a homer or did something that was absolutely amazing, people might have been more focused on eating their hot dog and completely missed what had happened. But that all changed in 1963 when Tony Verna invented the instant replay during an Army and Navy football game. When the Army ran in a one yard touchdown, he had figured out a way to record it in progress, and then immediately replay it for the crowd to watch again. Nowadays they use instant replay all the time, for slow motion, analyzing plays, and double checking questionable calls made by referees. The moment in time has been captured, so it can be viewed again.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Like instant replay, the moments of people’s lives will be eventually played back at judgment Day. All of the things that they have done will be reviewed, and all the hidden things will be exposed. Everyone will be judged according to their works, an instant replay that the righteous have been waiting for, and one that the wicked dread.

Revelation 20 ¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Many people who participate in wicked things certainly don’t want a camera recording what’s going on. They don’t want any evidence of the evils that they have committed. How quickly they forget that God is recording everything, watching everything that we do whether it is good or bad.

2 Corinthians 5 ¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. ¹¹ Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Instant replay can reveal hidden things that you really couldn’t see before.  Such will it be on the day of judgment, when God reveals the hidden things of darkness.

“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.”  1 Corinthians 4:5

“Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.” Psalms 90:8

Like reviewing an instant replay, people’s lives will be reviewed and they will be judged according to how they treated the brethren of Christ Jesus.

Matthew 25 ³¹ When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: ³² And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: ³³ And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: ³⁶ Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? ³⁸  When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? ³⁹ Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. ⁴¹ Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: ⁴³ I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. ⁴⁴ Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? ⁴⁵ Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. ⁴⁶ And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Maybe you’ve read about a group of children who put a message in a bottle and cast it out into the ocean. It floats around in the sea for 25 or 30 years until eventually somebody finds it, opens it up, and reads what’s inside. Our lives are very much like a time capsule, but eventually everything that is inside our hearts is going to be opened up and revealed by God.

“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.” Matthew 16:27

“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.” 1 Corinthians 3:13

From the greatest to the smallest upon this Earth, everyone will be judged, and rewarded according to their deeds.

John 5 ²⁸ Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

2 Thessalonians 1 ⁷ And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, ⁸ In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

The eternal video is rolling, capturing every moment of your life to be replayed again at judgment Day. What will be on it? What will people see something that they didn’t know before? Did you turn from darkness to the light? Did you repent of your wickedness and become a new creature in Christ Jesus? Did your heart transform from a sinner into a saint? What is the crowd going to see, when they watch your….
