Roadblock

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture, but before we do that I wanted to ask you a little question.

How many times have you been driving down a road when red tail lights began to flicker on and off in front of you? The snow was starting to blow pretty hard, and all of the traffic was slowing down because of the huge drifts that the storm was creating. This was the only path through the mountains that you could take, but as you gazed off into the distance, you could see vehicles stopping and turning around because the road had been closed. There was a huge roadblock that had been placed across the highway, deviating the traffic off into a different direction.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

In order to get to heaven we must stay on the narrow path of Christ, but some people are going to hit a roadblock. Rather than abiding in biblical truth, they will deviate and change their course, heading off in a completely different direction. Rather than accepting the truth and repenting of what they are doing, they will begin to believe a lie. Their foolish hearts will become hardened, as they begin building their own roadblock of rebellion, diverting them from the will of God, onto the wide road of destruction.

Hebrews 3 ¹² Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. ¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

To depart from God is to depart from His teachings, and choose to walk according to your own will rather than His. When the heart becomes hardened, it becomes disinclined to listen to the truth, and rather than walking in an obedient heart before Him, they choose to do their own thing instead. They become stubborn and rebellious, and turn their ears away from the teachings of scripture.

2 Timothy 4 ² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Sin is extremely deceitful, because it can make somebody feel that what they are doing is the right thing. The truth is that sin only pulls you further away from God. It may seem like the right path to take, but it only leads to the fires of damnation.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12

The path of rebellion begins when people start to hearken to their own counsel, rather than the counsel of God.

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” Proverbs 12:15

God hates rebellion, and it is a sign of an evil man.

“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.  1 Samuel 15:23

“An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.” Proverbs 17:11

“But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.” Jeremiah 5:23

Rebellion against God is a state of open resistance to His authority. This is exactly what the devil has been doing for thousands of years, trying to turn people away from faithful obedience to Christ. The devils can appear very religious, even as a false prophet or false apostle of God.

2 Corinthians 11 ¹³ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Jeremiah 28 ¹⁵ Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

The devil will do anything possible to break up your close relationship with God. They will use Earthly temptations and the things of this world in the attempt to lead your heart away from true love and obedience to Christ. The Lord Jesus deserves every bit of our hearts that we can give Him, as we humbly submit to His purpose for our lives.

1 Peter 5 ⁵ Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Many people are not walking in the true grace of God. They quickly profess to be a Christian, but then openly resist God’s Holy Word. They fight against the one who shed His own blood for their salvation. When they live like this, they only prove that they are not a Christian in their heart. All they are is a reprobate concerning the one true faith. These things have been going on for thousands of years and will continue to grow worse and worse until the return of our precious Lord Jesus Christ.

“Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” 2 Timothy 3:8

The only way to ever obtain eternal life is to accept the truth found in the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. People need to open their ears to the scriptures, and repent of their sinfulness. It is only through genuine faith that we can become pleasing unto God.

Hebrews 3 ¹⁵ While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. ¹⁶ For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. ¹⁷ But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? ¹⁹ So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

The wages of sin is death, and this is why we must turn away from it right now. Like a concrete barrier, sinful living will block one’s path to eternal life. Pride is a killer of the soul and you can’t allow sin to harden your heart. Open up your ears to the truth and repent because today is the day of salvation. Don’t let sin get the best of you by yielding to the flesh and rebelliously putting up your own….
