Jesus Is Coming Soon!

Mark 13:29 “So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.”

It is a beautiful clear day outside, and you and your family are out in the backyard having a weekend barbecue with lots of burgers, chips, pop, and other goodies. You bring out the croquet set, maybe a bean bag toss, a few lawn chairs, and proceed to have a wonderful couple of hours relaxing in the comfort of your family. But at some point in your afternoon, you notice a rather dark-looking cloud further on the horizon, but you continue to go on with the activities. Another hour later you look up again and realize that the cloud is moving a lot faster than you expected, and is looming overhead. What do you do?

In most circumstances, a dark cloud in the sky is usually a sign that a rainstorm is imminent, and most times people will start to get everything packed up and put away before the storm finally arrives. Away will the croquet set go, back into the shed. The food will disappear, either into the belly or into a storage bag or container. And once everything has been put away, everyone will then go into the house and weather the storm in comfort and safety.

You can see the signs of the changing weather approaching, and your intuition tells you to prepare beforehand, so that you do not get soaked by the rain. Yet this type of preparation is not present in the same manner for some people in their spiritual life. Not everyone “sees the stormcloud” on the horizon and begins to make the necessary preparations needed to ensure that when it does finally come they are ready to meet the Lord.

But thankfully the Lord Jesus has left us all of the signs that we need to know when His arrival is getting close.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-10  “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.”

It is certainly correct that we cannot know the actual day that the Lord will return to gather up His flock to be with Him, but we can know when that day is getting close.

Luke 21:7-11, 20, 25-28  “And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.

Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

“And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.”

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

So here we read that there will be many people who will claim to be Jesus, which, with a quick Internet search you will find that this has already happened, and continues to happen.

It seems that there never is a quiet time throughout the world, as there is always some kind of a war or commotion somewhere in the world, and I don’t believe we have even come close to seeing the worst of it yet. If nation rises against nation, it certainly seems like a world-wide kind of a war, which indeed has already happened, but could certainly happen again.

Earthquakes, famines, pestilence? These things seem to be a consistent feature as each year seems to bring something new in these categories. But they have all been foretold that they would happen, so we just need to keep vigilant, watch, and pray.

Mark 13:32-37  “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”

Jesus is coming soon!

In Christ
