Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
A busybody is somebody who becomes involved in the private lives of others. When something is private, it is defined as belonging to, or for the use of one particular person or group of people only. For example, the private relationship between a man and his wife in the bedroom is something that most people would consider guarded and extremely private. But a wicked wife might share sexual information about her spouse with others, even divulging that personal information with her own children. This is evil and malicious behavior and is clearly the work of the devil. Just like Judas, they betray their own spouse. A busybody thrives on receiving this type of data. Rather than turning away their ears from private details such as these, they joyfully receive it, and even disclose it to others. Many modern day newspapers are nothing more than glorified gossip columns, trying to find a headline of private dirt on anybody they can. Many of them do it under the guise of exposing the truth, while the facts are that they are nothing more than busybodies in the personal lives of another man. A lot of people understand that news outlets twist things in their favor, even for political reasons, but the things that they do will be quickly exposed by God. After all, what do you expect from them, they are of the world. Scripturally, they are no different than a murderer, and unless they repent, they too shall perish.
“But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.” 1 Peter 4:15
A busybody gets themselves involved in another man’s matters. For example, A man has been granted complete authority over his home by God, but many people will usurp his authority, and get involved with his wife or even his own children. Because of divorce, this can happen because of a wife’s own downfall by committing fornication and adultery with some wicked devil. Many times it can happen through one’s own relatives, even a wicked grandparent who involves themselves in the lives of another man’s household. People who do such things are the devil’s brethren, and are worthy of death. They certainly will not escape God’s punishment because scriptures are clear that they will reap what they sow. Like Pharoah, those who mock what I say, will be punished by God.
Galatians 6 ⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Privacy issues have always been long debated issue throughout the world. For many years, people have always said that a man’s home is his castle, for he is the Lord and King over his own household, but some people will hide out in dumpsters, using binoculars or other special equipment to find out what their neighbor is up to. I would guess that many of them probably end up in the intelligence services of governments around the world, but there is nothing intelligent in the eyes of God for what they’re doing.
“And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.” 1 Timothy 5:13
There is so much suffering and sorrow in this world, yet they don’t have anything better to do than being involved with the wicked works of a busy body. Incredibly, many of them profess to believe in Jesus, but they prove themselves liars. In complete hypocrisy, many of them will claim that they are on a quest to expose sin, while at the same time, they sin by being a busybody. These same types of people were sent out to Jesus to find out anything that the religious leaders could use against him. They didn’t come out to hear Jesus in order to grow in their faith, but to hear something come out of his mouth so that the religious society could rid themselves of Him. They were liars and busy bodies, and the same people might be closer to you than you think. Many times they will be your own relatives, or possibly even your own wife.
Matthew 22 ¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. ¹⁶ And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
¹⁹ Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. ²⁰ And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? ²¹ They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. ²² When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
Busy bodies are filled with prying eyes, trying to gain access to things that are none of their business. I guess it’s a weakness, just like any other in human nature. They do it to sell newspapers, to disgrace and dishonor their spouse, or under the guise of national security. Many times places of temporal authority want surveillance on everyone, digging up people’s private information, which the Bible quickly condemns. They claim they have authority, but they have not submitted themselves to the authority of the teachings of Christ Jesus. God will punish this behavior, just as He punished Pharaoh in the days of Moses. Temporal authorities don’t have to be concerned about the armies of this world. What they had better be concerned about is the eternal judgment and repercussions that will come from God.
Matthew 7 ³ And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? ⁴ Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? ⁵ Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
The devil is alive and well, and will try to find out anything about you in order to use against you. Many times, the most wicked works of a busy body come from your own spouse, who will share private information, with her adulterous lover, or even with her own children. Those who join up with her, will enter damnation, and it’s no wonder why divorce courts are so filled up with people.
“For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.” 2 Thessalonians 3:11
1 Timothy 5 ¹¹ But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; ¹² Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. ¹³ And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
Here is a word from the teachings of scripture, if you’re going to marry somebody, you need to stay with them until the day that you die. They might be cute when you meet them, but just like you, they will age and might grow fat later. They might be beautiful when you first commit your life to them, but the wrinkles will eventually appear. A busybody will betray and turn on their own spouse. Like Judas, their deeds will go down in history for what they have done. A busybody will rejoice for a short period of time, but God will cut them down with pain, disease and suffering. He does this because He is just, and He will avenge His faithful servants.
A busybody is a corrupt, because they try to point out the faults of others, but the biggest fault is with themselves. They have no desire for the betterment of the other party, but willfully choose to maliciously expose private information to others. John the Baptist heard private confessions, but can you imagine if he had told everybody about the private things that he had heard? Only a busy body will do this.
Some people cannot wait to divulge secret information, focused on things that they would not want done to themselves. They are completely absorbed in the lives of others, quickly exposing secret information, just like…..
