No Pity

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a little question.

If you saw a child fall down on the playground, would you quickly run over to see if they had gotten hurt? If your own son was crying about something wrong that they had done, would you give them a hug and forgive them?

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

To feel pity towards others, requires walking a mile in their shoes. Pity is to feel sorrow or compassion in your heart for the suffering and misfortunes of others. When you take pity on others, you sympathize and understand what they are going through, with the desire to show them compassion and mercy.

Luke 10 ³⁰ And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹ And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. ³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, ³⁴ And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ³⁵ And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. ³⁶ Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? ³⁷ And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

God is rich in mercy, and you would think

that the religious people in this parable would have had enough pity to help this suffering person, but they did nothing at all. There are many people today who claim to be Christian who are the exact same way. They are extremely religious, but when it comes down to it, they could care less about their neighbor. Their hearts are cold blocks of ice, callous, unmerciful, and implacable and completely unconcerned about others.

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” Philippians 2:4

Christians are called to be merciful with others, not only in their physical needs, but Spiritually as well. They must extend Grace to others, in their time of need. This is exactly what a certain King did, when he had compassion on a penitent man, and showed him mercy.

Matthew 18 ²³ Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. ²⁴ And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

²⁵ But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

²⁶ The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

²⁷ Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

²⁸ But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

²⁹ And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

³⁰ And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. ³¹ So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. ³² Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

³³ Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? ³⁴ And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. ³⁵ So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

The king had shown pity to the offender and wiped away his entire debt. But even though the servant had received mercy, he refused to be merciful with his own neighbor. Every day, people pray the Lord’s prayer, asking God to forgive them for their sins, but then when others seek their forgiveness, they refuse to grant it. This provokes God to extreme wrath, and He will reject their cries for mercy when they come seeking for it from Him. In my own judgment, it is an unforgivable sin.

James 2  ¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

Think about an Earthly courtroom, where a defendant cries out for mercy, but the judge and others turn away their ears from his cries, yet if they traded places with the other person at that moment, they would desire mercy too. To truly love your neighbor as yourself, you really need to ask yourself how you would like to be treated if you were in the same situation. Most people can’t do that because in the flesh, they only think about themselves.

“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” Matthew 7:12

Earthly law Is subordinate, and ever shall be, to the royal law in Christ Jesus.

“If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:” James 2:8

Many people who profess to be Christian, are the most merciless people in the world. They regularly attend church services, expecting forgiveness from God, but then go out to their neighbor and are completely merciless with them. History repeats itself, and the Jews that Jesus spoke out against have reappeared. This time, they are in the form of Christians. Jesus warned about the appearance of numerous false prophets, and they certainly have appeared. These wolves have now gained access to high places of Spiritual authority, and completely deny the life of a Christian. Some of them are merciless and cruel, like a woman who divorces her husband, and steals his own children from his home. They are false brethren, cold-hearted, cruel, and inhuman, who will be shown no mercy by God at the judgment. When they cry out for mercy from God, they will be cast into the Lake of Fire, and the God of love and mercy shall rip them apart.

“Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.” Psalms 50:22

God is watching from heaven above. Take pity on the suffering of others, otherwise God will treat you the exact same way. Those who are merciless, will be granted no mercy by Him, and the pitiless, with……
