Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture from the book of James.
Over the centuries, many people have claimed that nobody is above the law, but Earthly law will always be subordinate to the Law of Liberty found in Christ Jesus. Earthly law, along with all of its precepts, legal books and statutes will eventually be burned up by God. Scriptures clearly teach that the Earth and everything in it will be dissolved, and there will be a new Heaven and a new Earth. The things that will remain will be the teachings of God’s Holy Word and the law of mercy found in Christ Jesus. Those who feel that they are above Divine Law which is found throughout the teachings of the New Testament, will encounter the wrath of God.
James 2 ¹⁰ For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. ¹¹ For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. ¹² So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. ¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
Just like 2,000 years ago, people continue to use the law unjustly. Even in Earthly courtrooms, they will use it to persecute and harass others, or to hide behind it in order to cover up their own evil deeds. They even use it to promote their own political agendas. When the unrighteous wield the law, it is like giving a running chainsaw to a 3 year old. They use it to hurt their enemies. After all, this is what they did to Jesus when they put Him on the cross. Pilot had the authority to do something about it, but he pandered to the crowd instead. The world is filled with the same types of people today, who sit on their hands and refuse to rise up to Justice. These places of Earthly authority have been ordained by God, but many of them really don’t care about doing justice at all. It’s no wonder why Christians are forbidden to go to law with others, because they don’t believe in God enough to do what is right. If people were honest with themselves, the further that they went into the law, the more they should realize that they haven’t kept it somewhere. The purpose of the Old Testament law was to convict people of their sins. It was to make them realize that they were sinners just like the rest of us, then drive them into the arms of Christ for mercy.
Romans 3 ¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. ²⁰ Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Contrary to human opinion, nobody had kept the law. At one time the Apostle Paul felt like he was blameless, and that he had actually kept the law, but later he refers to himself as the chief of sinners, and a wretched man. He knew because of the flaws of human nature, none of us would be able to go to heaven without God’s help. We needed mercy and grace, which he found through our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?” John 7:19
“For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.” Galatians 6:13
The Lord abolished everything before the cross, casting away the demands of the law in order to open the door of salvation to all. The Apostles of Christ never commanded that people keep the law of the Old Testament.
“Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:” Acts 15:24
Everything before the Cross of Christ has been abolished, yet many people continue to try mixing the teachings of Judaism with Christianity. They have fallen from Grace.
Galatians 5 ¹ Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. ² Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. ³ For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. ⁴ Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. ⁵ For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
⁶ For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.
There’s a great difference between law and love. The purpose of law is wrath and punishment, but when Jesus died on the cross, He loved us, and abolished all the regulations of the Old Testament so that anybody could be saved, regardless if they had been born a Jew or not. No matter what nation someone might belong to in this world, each of us share one common thread, we are all sinners, who have come short of the glory of God. I have always said that there are only two classes of people in this world. Sinners, and redeemed sinners. It doesn’t matter who you are or even what language you speak. The only way that we can be made right with God, is by placing our faith in the lamb that God has sent for our salvation, Jesus Christ Our Lord.
“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29
Romans 4 ¹⁴ For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: ¹⁵ Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
All of us are sinners who need to be forgiven for our sins through faith in Christ.
Romans 3 ²³ For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
²⁴ Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: ²⁵ Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; ²⁶ To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
“Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.” Romans 2:1
Whether it’s a king, a judge or anybody else in a place of authority, all of us have sinned during our life. If you expect to be forgiven by God, then He demands that you be merciful with others, because you are just the same as them, and no one is….
