Take two vehicles sometime, one old and one new, and just compare the two of them against each other. What’s different? Well, one thing that will often stand out is that the old car will have dents here and there, the paint might be faded or chipping away in certain spots, the body of the vehicle might even be rusting away around the wheels. The engine might run rough, and there might be other mechanical issues. Then look at the new car. Not a dent or scratch in sight, no blemishes of any kind, and because everything is brand new the car works flawlessly. Complete difference between the two. Which car is better? Which one would you choose? I think that most of us if we were given the choice to choose between the old car that we had and getting a new car instead we would most likely choose the latter.
And you know, that is exactly the same feeling that we should have in our spiritual life with the Lord, because as a believer in Jesus Christ we should desire to “choose the better car.” We should desire to put away the old sinful ways that we used to be filled up with, and to become a new man, as Paul taught.
Colossians 3:5-10 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
All sin, fornication, covetousness, idolatry, etc, we must remove from our lives, and separate from so that we might be pleasing to the heavenly Father. Sin is something that is not pleasing to God in any way, and because of this we need to be renewed in the Spirit of His Son Jesus, and live according to the teachings as they are taught in the Bible.
The life of a Christian is change, change from an old way of life to a completely new and better one. Change from sin to holiness. Remember, when God created Adam in the Garden of Eden he had been created a perfect creature. It was after the very first sin that everyone became sinners, and because of that original sin everyone else inherited that sin upon themselves.
Look to the life of the Apostle Paul for example. Paul started out as a person who persecuted Christians and fought against the things of Christ. But that was the old person that he used to be, because when he turned his life around and gave himself to the Lord’s service he became the “new man” who had put off the sinful deeds of the flesh. The old had become new. And so must we. Christians must change, and put away sin from our lives.
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Don’t let sin have the rule over your life any longer! Jesus wants you to serve Him! Remove the old sinner and replace it with a new man in the Lord!
In Christ
