Like Christ

When you look up into the sky on a clear night, what will you often see? You will see the moon shining in the night sky. But do you know what makes the moon shine so bright? It doesn’t produce light by itself, but it reflects the light that comes from the sun, rather similar to a mirror that you may have in your bathroom. If you shut off the lights in your bathroom and then take a flashlight and shine it at the mirror the light will bounce off the reflective surface and onto the wall somewhere else. You see, the mirror itself does not produce light, it simply reflects it.

Well this is what we must look like to others. We want the world to see Jesus working in our lives. He is the example that we need to mirror ourselves after, in everything that we do. What would Jesus do? How would He act? Our lives must reflect the life of our Lord. That is truly what it means to be a follower of Jesus. A follower is a person who follows another in regard to their ideas or beliefs. It is a person who imitates or copies, or takes as a model.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1) He wrote many of the books of the New Testament, filled with wisdom and teachings for us to follow. Paul was a man filled with the Holy Spirit, ordained by Jesus to be an apostle for Him, and he is a great example to look to of how we should live.

Paul worked tirelessly for the Lord, in times of peace and in times of peril. When people hated him for his belief in Christ, he continued on and didn’t let that affect him. He kept going. He continued to live in the way that Jesus taught.

There are many families that have done the same occupation for generations. We know many families in our area that have been either in farming or logging for generation after generation. Someone at one time started it all by choosing that life choice, and their children continued on with it, and their children did it as well, and so on. They all mirrored the same lifestyle as the one who started it all.

Jesus also did the work of His Father.

John 5:19-21 “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verly, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what the things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.”

Jesus mirrored the example of His Father. He is the exact replica of His Father. In fact, when Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father, Jesus told him, “…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” (John 14:9)

Let your life be a light that shines for Christ. Whatever action that you make, whatever words that you speak, let them mirror the image of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us be just like Him.
