Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from The book of Psalms.
Psalms 37 ⁴ Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. ⁵ Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
First of all, to commit yourself to the Lord is to perform, devote and dedicate yourself to obedience and submission to His will. It is to be unwavering in your loyalty, both to Him and His teachings. There is nothing impossible with God and He is capable of bringing all things to pass, but before that happens it will require obedience to His will.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
God rewards obedience. Think of a child who continues asking for a candy bar in the grocery store. But before giving them one, some parents will watch to see if the child is on their best behavior. They might see what their response is when they tell them to do something. They are testing the water so to speak, to see if they will obey in all things, just as the Apostle Paul did to the church.
“For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.” 2 Corinthians 2:9
When the child proves their obedience, many times their actions will be rewarded as they walk through the checkout counter. Granted, some parents don’t always reward good behavior, but remember that God most certainly does!!! He is the creator of Heaven and Earth and can give you whatever you desire, but you must first show Him that you are ready to do His will from the heart. Ever since they were very small, I taught my own children to obey, obey, and obey! This is because God will reward us when we OBEY!
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Revelation 22:12
But once again, in order to receive things from God, we must first commit our way to Him, which is found throughout His teachings in the New Testament. We must become obedient children and follow His way rather than our own.
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 16:25
His way is a very narrow path of obedience, one that many people simply are not going to find.
Matthew 7 ¹³ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: ¹⁴ Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
God can give us the things that we request, WHEN we commit ourselves to following and obeying His teachings. To gain something by unrighteous or disobedient means is not blessed by God, I don’t care if you prayed for it or not. Again, when you obtain something you desired, but you had to go against conscience and the will of God in order to get it, it was not a prayer answered by God. It was a request that you answered yourself. Many false Christians do this all the time, claiming that God answered their prayer, but God does not reward disobedience. In fact, He will do quite the contrary.
“But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,” Romans 2:8
If you received something but you had to go against the will of God in order to get it, it is not something God wanted you to have in the first place. That’s called sin! Imagine a High school student beating up somebody on the playground, and then being suspended and sent home from school until further notice. What kind of parent is going to reward that type of behavior? Those who do,…evil will not depart from their house.
“Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.” Proverbs 17:13
This is the false religion that surrounds us today in this wicked world. God doesn’t even listen to certain prayers until effort is put forth to submit to His will.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
We can walk in the blessings of God and be showered with His Divine favor when we humble ourselves and do His will from our heart.
James 1 ²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
The Lord commands women to be chaste keepers at home, but now they send their children off to babysitters, have gone out in society to start their own business, and claim that it is an answer to prayer! What a bunch of faithless malarky. It’s like a woman who professes Christianity, and then in complete disobedience to Christ, walks out and divorces her husband, gets involved with some strange man and then has the audacity to claim that it is an answer to prayer! This is the false Christianity that is going on in the world today, led by a slew of false prophets who tell people exactly what they want to hear. God does not answer the prayers of the wicked and the impenitent.
“To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” Titus 2:5
God can grant us the desires of our hearts, when we please Him. Solomon pleased God greatly, and look how he was rewarded.
2 Chronicles 1 ¹⁰ Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? ¹¹ And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: ¹² Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
In these latter days, there are many people who are lukewarm Christians, and you can tell who they are by the disobedient way that they live their lives. No matter how much they pray, God will turn a deaf ear to their requests, and shower His rewards upon the humble, the obedient, and the…..
