Actively Seeking

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a little question.

What is something that you go searching after? There are countless things in this world that can draw people’s hearts and minds away from God. But as the saying goes, some people are looking for love in all the wrong places, and this is why our hearts need to be placed completely on the Lord. Some people will desire money rather than the things of God. Solomon loved his wives a little bit too much, as they turned away his heart from the Lord.  Everything in this place is temporary, and someday, it will all be gone. We brought nothing into this world and we will take nothing with us when we leave. The lust and sinful desires of this world only takes your eyes off of God.

1 John 2 ¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

There are so many distractions in this world, simply because the world has gotten itself into a big hurry. Like video games in an arcade, a lot of people are caught up in it all, and these temporal frivolities only pull us away from what we need most, a close relationship with the Lord. We must seek the Lord diligently in a constant effort to be in His presence, and you will be rewarded.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

The man In this upcoming passage had a very diligent heart.

Luke 11 ⁵ And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; ⁶ For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? ⁷ And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. ⁸ I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. ⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ¹⁰ For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. ¹¹ If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? ¹² Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? ¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Importunity is persistence, especially to the point of annoyance. It is to continue asking over and over again, until you finally get the things that you desired. If we want to be blessed by God, this is the heart that we need to bring unto him.

“Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.” Psalms 119:2

“When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.”  Psalms 27:8

“The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” Lamentations 3:25

“Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.” Psalms 70:4

We have to seek God first thing in the morning because He blesses that activity.

1 Chronicles 16 ⁹ Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. ¹⁰ Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. ¹¹ Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

Instead of getting caught up in the things of tomorrow, we must focus on some quality time with Him today.

Matthew 6 ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. ³⁴ Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

“And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,” Deuteronomy 10:12

Psalms 42 ¹ ……As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. ² My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

Listen to the seeking heart of David.

Psalms 63 ¹ (A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.) O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; ² To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. ³ Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. ⁴ Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. ⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: ⁶ When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. ⁷ Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. ⁸ My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

So you don’t want to get distracted by other things, being thirsty for the things of God, and a heart that is…
