Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Many years ago I used to travel across the country for work, and I stayed in many motels during that time. Because I was on a really tight budget, I normally had to sleep in rooms that were in pretty tough shape. Some of them were so bad that you could practically walk through the walls. Sometimes when you got back late at night and keyed the door, as soon as you flipped on the switch, you could watch as hundreds of bugs started to run away from the light. They would quickly scatter to the four corners of the ceiling, and before you knew it, they were all gone.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Whenever you take a stand for the light of God’s Word, it can do the exact same thing. The light of scripture doesn’t sit well in the ears of the impenitent. This is a wicked world we live in and when the light of God’s Word shines upon the wicked, the reaction will be the same. They will run quickly in the opposite direction and right back into the darkness.
“For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” John 3:20
There have been many times when I’ve been out talking about the gospel somewhere, and when you begin to hit on certain topics that people don’t want to repent of, they get up and walk away. Many people don’t want to face the real truth in their own life, so rather than accepting the fact of the error of their way, they run off into the darkness. This is simply because they don’t want to conform to the truth of scripture. They don’t want to submit. They want to do things their own way without any type of restrictions, but that is the path that leads to the wide road of destruction. Whenever you can’t open your ears up to scriptural Truth, or someone who is advising you about the consequences of what you are doing, something is wrong. But this is the era that we are living in right now, a huge form of false Christianity that continues to grow each day. When the light of God’s truth shines brightly upon them, they turn away and believe lies instead. The Apostle warned that these days were coming.
2 Timothy 4 ¹ I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; ² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
You would think that the people of God would believe the teachings of God, but for many, that’s not the case. When they turn their hearts away from the truth, they are headed right off a cliff. They don’t want to hear corrections, or be reproved, just like a stubborn wife who stomps their feet and runs out the door. They resist the Holy Spirit just as those before them, and refuse biblical instruction. They look like christians, they sound like christians, but they are not Christians.
2 Timothy 3 ¹ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. ² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,.³ Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ⁴ Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵ Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. ⁶ For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ⁷ Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
The same types of people who were rebuked by John the Baptist have reappeared, only now they refer to themselves as Christian. It Is by name only, as a huge mass of them completely reject the will of God found in the teachings of scripture. It is a religion without guidance. It is a religion without obedience. It is a religion without love for God, and it grows each day like a cancerous tumor, marching quickly into tribulation and suffering. Like a foolish son, they turn their ears from the truth, and completely reject rebukes.
“A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.” Proverbs 13:1
There is only way this path will lead; suffering, sorrow, and without repentance…eternal corruption.
“Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.” Proverbs 13:18
“He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.” Proverbs 10:17
“Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.” Proverbs 12:1
Proverbs 5 ¹¹ And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,¹² And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me. ¹⁴ I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
Someone must stand up as a faithful soldier of Christ, and shine the light upon this great darkness that is encompassing the entire world.
“But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.” Ephesians 5:13
Why do they even refer to themselves as a Christian; because all they are doing is leading people astray from the will of Christ Jesus.
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Luke 6:46
Listen closely, this counterfeit form of Christianity will be punished by God, and you had better steer clear of it before it’s too late. Like in the days of Moses, God’s plagues and punishments will come swiftly upon them.
Revelation 18 ⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. ⁵ For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
These are strange times, when people claim to believe something but darkness fills their hearts. When you take them to scripture, they make light of it. When you try to convince and warn them, they mock you. When I look around at all of the spiritual wickedness that is going on within modern Christianity, it makes me think of all the nights I spent sleeping with the light on, and I’m back at…….
