Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
It has been said that the Civil war was the deadliest war in American history. Over 600,000 died, which was more than those who were killed in World War I and World War II combined. It’s hard to imagine, but during the Civil War, there were numerous families who fought against each other. Some of them were loyal to the Confederacy, while the allegiance of others was to the Union. These divisions created a huge rift in the family unit, and in some of the deadliest engagements, you would even find a brother fighting against their own brother.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
The teachings of Holy Scripture are going to create division within a family too. Just like in politics, you will have people on opposite sides of the fence. In the Christian faith, you will have those who believe the truth of God’s Word, and those who don’t. You will have those who submit to His will, and those who won’t.
Luke 12 ⁵¹ Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: ⁵² For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
A household is defined as those who dwell under the same roof and compose a family. Many people believe that Jesus came to bring peace on the Earth, but there is no peace without obedience to Christ. There is no peace with the Lord, no peace with the Heavenly Father, and no peace within your own family. Remember at Judgment Day, there will be everlasting division, when Jesus separates His sheep from the goats. He will divide the obedient from the disobedient, and the loyal from the disloyal, and everyone shall reap what they have sowed.
Matthew 10 ³⁴ Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. ³⁶ And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
Judas came from within the original Apostles, and some of your closest enemies will be your own wife and family members who hate and even betray you. This is because they really don’t know the true and living God. When it happens to you, just remember that it is simply a fulfillment of biblical prophecy. Don’t forget that the Lord Jesus was all alone and hated by the world when He went all the way to the cross.
John 15 ¹⁸ If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
Division is going to happen because of the teachings of scripture. Those who refuse to repent, and humbly submit to the will of God are going to hate you, beginning within your own household. They become your enemies because they are the enemies of biblical truth. The gospel does not bring forth a warm embrace from the impenitent, but quite the opposite. It produces hatred, which is exactly the way they treated Christ and all those who are filled with His Spirit.
“Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.” 1 John 3:13
Those who strive to obey, will be hated by the disobedient. Those who are filled with the light, will be hated by those living in darkness. Those who preach the truth will be hated by those who preach lies. They will separate you from their company because they don’t have the Holy Spirit.
Jude 1 ¹⁸ How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. ¹⁹ These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
When this happens get ready, because God’s blessings are coming!!!
Luke 6 ²² Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. ²³ Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
These are some very wicked times that we are living through, because many people who profess the Christian Life are rejecting the teachings of God’s Word. You would think that the people of God would believe in the things that are taught in the scriptures, but that is not always the case. Some of them are so far away from biblical truth, that when someone preaches it, they are hated. They claim to know the Lord, but have no desire to do what He says. People have turned it into a religion without repentance and a Christianity without Christ.
John 16 ¹ These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. ² They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. ³ And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
“For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.” Micah 7:6
Matthew 10 ²¹ And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. ²² And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
This is a wicked place that we live in, and whenever you take a stand for what’s good and right, you are going to be hated by the world. It’s the division between humility and pride. It’s the division between repentance and rebellion. It’s the division between subjection and insubordination. Those who desire to do the will of God from their heart are going to be hated by those who refuse to repent, beginning within your own family. But it Is our loving obedience to God that sustains us when the world completely reviles us. To walk in the Spirit of Christ, we must learn to embrace the hatred; whether it’s from a wife, whether it’s from your children, or even when it’s…..
