Mischief

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from The book of Psalms.

Psalms 140 ⁹ As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. ¹⁰ Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again. ¹¹ Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

This is one of the Psalms of David, where he asks the Lord Jesus for deliverance, and to punish those who are doing wickedly to him. Scriptures are clear that we are not supposed to personally return evil for evil or to avenge ourselves, but we can cry out mightily to the Lord to punish those who rise up against us. We are not supposed to faint or quit asking, but continue to petition the Lord day and night, to afflict and overthrow them all.

Luke 18 ¹ And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

² Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: ³ And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; ⁵ Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. ⁶ And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. ⁷ And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? ⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them speedily……

The Lord delivered the Israelites out of the hand of Pharaoh, and destroyed his army. He delivered Noah, and brought the flood upon the ungodly. He delivered Lot from Sodom and Gomorrah, and then burned their City to the ground. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, and he can and will punish all those who maltreat His servants.

“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:27

Hebrews 10 ³⁰ For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Those who are mischievous are involved in reckless behavior, which is meant to hurt, cause harm, do evil towards, or plot against someone maliciously. They use their tongues wickedly, gossiping and spreading lies about others. Their mouths are filled with poisonous speech that is driven by their hateful and evil hearts.

“A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it;……Proverbs 26:28

“For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.” Psalms 109:2

“They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.” Psalms 140:3

David prays to God that the mischievous activity of others comes right back upon their own heads.

Psalms 7 ¹⁵ He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. ¹⁶ His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

“So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.”  Psalms 64:8

No one can escape God’s justice, as He will recompense a just reward to all those who do wickedly towards others. Even in the days of Pharaoh, He sent plagues, pestilence, and destroyed some of them in His righteous anger. God has not changed since then, and He will do the same thing today to all those who mock the truth and treat his servants contemptuously.

Psalms 59 ¹² For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

¹³ Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

Psalms 31 ¹⁶ Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake. ¹⁷ Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

Whatever you sow is what you will reap. When you do evil to your others, it’s going to boomerang right back upon your own head.

“A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.” Proverbs 19:5

“And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.” Isaiah 13:11

Many people will speak wicked things about others secretly, but their evil deeds are not hidden from God.

“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.” 1 Corinthians 4:5

“Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.” 1 Timothy 5:25

It doesn’t matter if they profess to be Jewish, Christian or a complete unbeliever. God is perfectly just and He will punish evil swiftly.

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;” Jeremiah 9:25

Many people speak evil about others, using their tongues to do wickedly.

“And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” James 3:6

“Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.” Psalms 109:20

“He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.” Psalms 54:5

The evil that one does to someone else, is going to come right back upon them. God will lift up and protect His humble servants, and punish the wicked right up to the day of judgment. The vengeance of God will be the reward for everybody who gets themselves involved in ….
