Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
The tractor has been around for over 100 years and has become one of the most useful pieces of equipment on a farm. Even when a farmer is all by themselves, it is a huge helper, capable of doing things that would require the assistance of many others to complete. In 1892 in a small village of Northeast Iowa, the very first tractor was created by John Froelich (Fray-lick). Prior to this invention, most farmers used steam engines to thresh wheat, which were very heavy and difficult to use. There was a high danger factor because they operated under great pressure, and could possibly explode. Sometimes their sparks would set fire to the nearby straw when they were working in the field. Froelich was a farmer, and with the help of a blacksmith, created a vertical, one cylinder engine that they mounted onto the running gear of a steam engine. Interesting enough, this gasoline engine could move forwards and backwards, which was a new and innovative feature for gas motors. Later that fall, He used his new creation in the field, and it was a huge success. He finally presented his invention to a group of businessmen in Waterloo Iowa, and they quickly formed a company to produce these engines. The small town in which he created his gas tractor was Froelich Iowa, or “Tractor Town USA, and if you ever have the afternoon to look around, you can even find one of these tractors built from original blueprints that is on public display.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
A tractor is a big help to a farmer, but it is nothing in comparison to the help that we can find from God. He is the greatest helper that there is, and we can rely and depend on Him each day to come quickly to our aid. Even when we are all alone, He will reach out from the heavens to help His obedient children with whatever things that they need.
“For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.” Isaiah 41:13
Our God is very giving, and when we walk according to His will, He reaches out to assist us.
“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” 1 John 3:22
“Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.” Psalms 54:4
Jesus has always pleased the Heavenly Father, and God is always with Him.
“And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” John 8:29
God helped the Apostle Paul numerous times, delivering him out of many precarious situations.
2 Corinthians 1 ⁸ For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: ¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
2 Timothy 4 ¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: ¹⁵ Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. ¹⁶ At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. ¹⁷ Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
When Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den for praying, the Lord helped him and closed the mouths of the Lions.
Daniel 6 ¹⁶ Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee. ¹⁷ And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel. ¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him. ¹⁹ Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. ²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? ²¹ Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. ²² My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. ²³ Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
Psalms 121 ² My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
“Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” Psalms 124:8
“But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.” Psalms 22:19
“Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.” Psalms 33:20
“Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.” Psalms 115:11
Although agricultural equipment is a big help when it comes to doing things on a farm, remember that God is the greatest helper of all. He can help us through any situation, and is capable of providing abundantly above all that we ask or think. He will supply His faithful servants with everlasting assistance, aid that will stretch far beyond the temporal limitations of….
