Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
One time I picked up a small milk goat for the family. She was a Pygmy, and the seller had told us that they produce quite a bit of milk for their small stature. I bought her when she was pregnant, and we waited until she finally gave birth to share some of her milk with my children. The kids all grew up on her goat milk, and it seemed like as soon as you brought it in the house for breakfast, it was all gone. Our little Pygmy eventually gave birth to two little kids, one male and one female, and were two of the cutest creatures that I have ever seen. I really knew nothing about raising animals, so I dumped some corn from the hen house onto the floor so the little ones could eat. They stared at it for a few minutes and looked absolutely confused, but it only took a few moments until they finally began drinking milk from their mother.
This reminds me the Christian Life.
Sometimes an animal cannot have regular food right away. When we first become a believer, sometimes the truth can be very hard to accept. A lot of people don’t want to be confronted with the truth, because it can hurt. But no matter how much it does, we have to face the facts, and repent of our sins. To be saved eternally we must receive a love for the truth, no matter how hard it may be to swallow.
2 Thessalonians 2 ¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
God doesn’t want people to perish, He wants them to repent. But repentance cannot happen in someone’s life if they are not going to believe biblical truth. If they don’t believe God’s Word, then what they are doing is calling the things of God a lie. I mean, if someone is going to reject the truth, then the only option left for them is to believe a lie. This is why men of God repetitively warned the church over and over and over again, not to be deceived.
“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” Matthew 24:11
“Let no man deceive you by any means:….. 2 Thessalonians 2:3
“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:13
If you don’t love the truth, you will never own up to your own shortcomings and eventually overcome them. You will never confess faults or admit failure. To truly love the Lord Jesus is to love His teachings. As a wife lovingly submits herself to the commands and instructions of her own husband, we must lovingly receive and submit to the teachings of scripture. To truly love Jesus is to follow and obey Him. When you love something, you will seek after it. People would follow Jesus for many miles just to hear Him preach, and we too must have a great desire to be filled with the wisdom of God. Next to the Lord Jesus, the Word of God must be the love of our life!
Proverbs 4 ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. ¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. ¹¹ I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. ¹² When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. ¹³ Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
Like a wolf that is waiting to ambush its prey, the devil is waiting to deceive you. He purposely puts forth a falsehood so as to lead you away from perfect obedience to God. He’s been doing this since the garden of Eden, which ultimately resulted in their expulsion from Paradise.
“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;” Ephesians 4:14
The best defense against all the lies in the world is a liberal dose of Scriptural Truth. It’s a light that exposes the darkness, and a sword that cuts right to the Soul.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
Remember that the devil does not lead people into obedience to God, but rebellion. Men of God will rebuke, warn and correct others because they care about you and your own salvation. If they can convert you and get you back on the path of Christ Jesus, then they will save a soul from death.
James 5 ¹⁹ Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; ²⁰ Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
To truly love God’s Word is to believe it with all of your heart, otherwise you will believe it in vain and it never results in the conversion of your soul.
1 Corinthians 15 ¹ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; ² By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
Just as an obedient son obeys their dad perfectly, being faithful to the teachings of scripture is the proof that we truly love God from the heart.
“But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.” 1 John 2:5
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” 3 John 1:4
Sometimes rebukes and corrections don’t feel very good, but they are for our benefit, so we can bring forth the fruits of righteousness. Sometimes the truth is going to sting, depending on how far away from God that you have become. Remember that the ultimate goal of a Christian, is repentance, and in order to do this, we must believe the truth of scripture, even when it’s…….
