Go Jump in a Lake

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from The book of Matthew.

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” Matthew 18:6

First of all, all five of my children were born on my bed in our small cabin out in the woods. When my wife was ready to deliver, I helped her through it, and delivered my children directly from the womb. I tied off all of their umbilical cords, and then when the children were ready, I laid them on my wife’s chest so they could bond with their mother. Being a part of childbirth is an amazing thing, and I will never forget the first breath of each of my beautiful children. But as soon as they were capable of understanding some simple words, I began to instruct them in the teachings of Holy Scripture. We would have lessons in the morning and evenings as I planted in their hearts, the everlasting seed of God’s Word.

Just as a born again adult, the faith of a child is established through the teachings of scripture. The greatest thing that you could ever do for them is put their feet on the path of Spiritual knowledge. When they are young, their minds are soft and pliable, just like a piece of clay that you would place upon a pottery wheel. Each day, you are molding and shaping their conscience through the teachings of our faith. In the home, a wife’s responsibility is to feed the children with milk, but it is the responsibility of the husband to feed them with the milk of God’s Word.

As they grew over the years, Spiritual values were continually instilled in them. Just like transferring data from your computer onto a small drive, a preacher transfers the data of scripture into the hearts of Christians. If we ever expect to grow, we must be filled with the knowledge of God’s will. If you want to become a dentist, you have to study! If you want to become a chemist, you have to study! Our conscience is formed when we become aware of what’s right and wrong from God’s Word. This is the only way that we can become pleasing unto Him. As my children grew throughout the years, I transferred the Spiritual knowledge that I have learned into them. They were raised in very strong Conservative Christian beliefs, in the same way that David instructed his son Solomon. But the devil wants to attack our children and the values that have been established in them. He’s been doing this ever since the garden of Eden when he seduced Eve to go against her conscience. She knew what she was supposed to be doing for God, but it was the devil who convinced her to lighten up!

There are many warnings for backslidden Christians. These are people who at one time were obediently serving the Lord, but then relaxed their beliefs, and got involved doing things that went completely against what they were taught from the Word of God. The devil is the biggest backslider you will ever find. He is so far gone, that he will try to convince an obedient Christian to slacken up in their faith and beliefs. He might tell you, don’t worry about that,… you were raised far too strict. He might tell you that times have changed, and you don’t have to do that anymore. What a worthless weakling. This is what the devil wants to do to our children. He wants to get them to go against their conscience. He wants to get them to reject their conservative beliefs. He wants to corrupt their faith, and abandon it just as he did. Whoever gets involved leading a child away from their original conservative conscience is about the wickedest person you will ever find. As the Lord Jesus taught, it would be better off if they were drowned in the depths of the sea. 

To offend means to cause them to sin. True men of God such as the Apostle Paul, lead people into obedience and submission to God. The devil will attempt to convince and encourage you to go against conscience and the things that you have been raised in from His Holy Word. He doesn’t want to see conservatism. He doesn’t want to see faithful obedience. The devil wants you to live your own life, rather than living for God. The devil is a rebellious, selfish, and arrogant creature. Oh, at times, he can be very religious, but all he wants to do is lead you astray from the truth. Remember that during the temptation of Jesus, he was using scripture, but he was completely outmatched, because he was up against the WORD of GOD in the flesh!

When you are raised in scriptural truth, the devil likes to show up and tell you to skip what you have been educated in. It’s one thing for somebody to sin themselves, but the devil goes beyond that. He will try to convince others to reject their strong faith and beliefs. This is because the devil is a liar, and wants to lie to our children. This is an egregious sin in the sight of God. Men of God lead you into submission and obedience to the faith, while the devil wants to tear everything apart like the vicious backslidden wolf that he is.The devil is such a wicked and arrogant person, trying to destroy the hearts and minds of our young people. He wants to rip the seed that was sown in them, right out of their hearts. 

Luke 8 ¹¹ Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. ¹² Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

Children are young and impressionable, that’s why we must protect them and their hearts from being led astray. The devil doesn’t want a child to keep their faith, but to lose it. He doesn’t want them to walk in the truth, but to believe his lies instead. Ultimately it is the devil who is responsible for leading people away from their faith. When it comes to young believers in Christ, this stirs God up to wrath.

There is no going backwards in the Christian Life. It is a continual process of purification and sanctification, through the knowledge of God’s will. The devil will try to impede this process as much as possible. This is because he’s already renounced the faith, and wants others to do the same. People who do this to young children might as well throw themselves into the ocean because that is all they are worth. Rather than blood running through their veins, they are filled with the dung of wickedness. All they want to do is steal our children, and steal their souls. 

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: John 10:10

So whenever the devil approaches and tells you that your beliefs are too conservative and strict, just remember to tell him……
