Healed by Faith

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of James.

James 5 ¹⁴ Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: ¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

First of all, through faith in Christ Jesus, we have access to both physical and Spiritual healing. When somebody is not feeling well, they need to come forward and ask to be anointed, and in that simple act of Faith, God heals us. Sometimes people don’t get healed simply because of their own unbelief.

Mark 6 ⁵ And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. ⁶ And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

It’s always amazed me that people will completely trust the word of a doctor, but they refuse to trust the Word of God. Our precious Lord Jesus is the creator of all things, and there is nothing that is impossible for Him, including healing sicknesses and diseases. In our study passage, the word “shall” is used three times in verse 15. This word indicates that something will happen in the future. They will be healed, raised up, and forgiven, all at the same time.

Luke 5 ¹⁷ And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. ¹⁸ And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. ¹⁹ And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. ²⁰ And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. ²¹ And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? ²² But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? ²³ Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? ²⁴ But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins,  (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. ²⁵ And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. ²⁶ And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

Whenever my children have had any type of sickness, I knew that the Lord would heal them, so I anointed them with oil in His name, and they were completely healed of whatever they had. Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, God grants men in the church with certain gifts, one of which is the gift of healing.

“To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;” 1 Corinthians 12:9

1 Corinthians 12 ²⁷ Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. ²⁸ And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

When people lay hands on the sick, it is not because of their own righteousness that people are healed. People are delivered from sickness because they have placed their complete faith in the healing power of Christ Jesus.

Acts 3 ¹ Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. ² And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; ³ Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. ⁴ And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. ⁵ And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. ⁶ Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. ⁷ And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. ⁸ And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. ⁹ And all the people saw him walking and praising God: ¹⁰ And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

¹¹ And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering. ¹² And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? ¹³ The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go. ¹⁴ But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; ¹⁵ And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. ¹⁶ And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

The Apostle Paul had the gifts of healing as well.

Acts 14 ⁸ And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked: ⁹ The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, ¹⁰ Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

When we are baptized by submersion into the Christian Life, all of the sins that have been committed before that point are completely wiped away. But when people have the faith to come forth for healing, not only are they healed physically, but their sins are wiped away too. Our precious Lord Jesus is extremely merciful in providing us with this kind benevolence.

“And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.” Luke 9:11

How much do you believe in the truth of the Gospel? The Lord Jesus and the disciples were healing people everywhere, but it requires faith. God created this entire world including the Sun, the Moon, and the universe, so what is it for Him to heal people? These things are much smaller in comparison and it should not be a remarkable thing to understand that God heals us through faith. I have been healed many times in my life. One time I was sick for over forty days, and lost so much weight that my wife thought I was going to die. I kept telling the family that I was waiting for the Lord’s healing, and anointed myself with oil in His name. I knew that He could completely deliver me if that was His desire. It was, and here I am almost twenty years later to testify about it.

Do you believe in the healing power of Christ? It will require complete trust in Jesus, if you truly desire to be…..
