Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a little question.
If you heard a weather warning, would you run for cover? All throughout the teachings of scripture, you will find numerous warnings that were given to the church. Warnings are statements that indicate a great possibility of impending danger, problems, or some other type of unpleasant situation. There are only two options that are available. You either heed the warnings, or you can ignore them. The Lord Jesus warned His disciples numerous times.
Luke 12 ⁴ And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Many people in this world think that if you ignore something long enough that it will eventually go away, but you cannot ignore repentance. Like a child who refuses to hearken to the warnings of their dad, some people are going to be at the receiving end of God’s wrath, simply because they would not hearken to the teachings of the Gospel.
Romans 2 ⁵ But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
⁶ Who will render to every man according to his deeds: ⁷ To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: ⁸ But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; ¹⁰ But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: ¹¹ For there is no respect of persons with God.
There are consequences for ignoring the commands of scripture.
Galatians 6 ⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
⁸ For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
To ignore means to intentionally not listen or give attention to: or to turn a deaf ear. Pharaoh is a prime example of someone who completely ignored the warnings of Moses.
Exodus 9 ¹ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. ² For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still, ³ Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous (mur- rin) murrain. ⁴ And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children’s of Israel. ⁵ And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land. ⁶ And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one. ⁷ And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.
When people refuse to submit to the teachings of scripture, it is simply a fulfillment of biblical prophecy. This is why we are surrounded by so much false Christianity in the world today, filled with many people who refuse to turn from their sins and wholeheartedly submit to the will of God.
2 Timothy 4 ¹ I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; ² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Through the grace found in Christ Jesus, we have the opportunity to become a completely new creature. Through faith, we can be transformed from sinners into Saints, but to do this will require obedience. Those who choose to ignore the warnings, and turn a deaf ear to repentance will be cast into an everlasting Lake of Fire.
Revelation 21 ⁷ He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
2 Thessalonians 1 ⁷ And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
⁸ In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
It doesn’t matter if someone professes to be a Christian or not, God is going to punish the impenitent. Repentance is at the very core of our own salvation, requiring us to turn from sins, and walk in the will of God.
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
When people begin the Christian Life, their names can be written into the book of Life. But if they close their ears to the truth of scripture, and refuse to overcome sin, they will eventually be blotted out, and receive the reward of the disobedient.
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” Revelation 3:5
Many people who profess Christianity will be turned away by the Lord Jesus on Judgment Day. They might have been very religious on the exterior, but on the inside, their hearts were far from Him. They will claim that they loved Him, but the love that they professed never resulted in obedience to His will. Don’t be deceived with them, as they will reap the reward for their own rebellion, along with all those who are turning their ears from the truth, and…..
