Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of 2nd Thessalonians.
2 Thessalonians 2 ¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
The Apostles and disciples of the Lord were preaching the truth of scripture to the public, yet many people refused to listen to them, and completely rejected the things that they were saying. Some of them became extremely contentious, calling the disciples evil, and then raising up persecution against them, which is the same way that they treated our precious Lord Jesus.
“And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.” John 8:45
Some of the cities that Jesus preached to were the exact same way. Like many false Christians today, they were exalted in their own religious pride, actually believing that they were on their way to heaven, but because of their lack of repentance and belief of the truth, they would be eventually cast into hellfire.
“And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.” Luke 10:15
The same types of people are spoken of in the following passage.
Matthew 7 ²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Some of the religious leaders who came out to see John the Baptist were believing the same types of lies, but John set them straight and told them the truth.
Matthew 3 ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: ⁹ And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. ¹⁰ And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Many people in this world, including a lot of religious ones, want to live it up and do what they want to do, without anything standing in the way of fulfilling their own lustful desires. Many times they will mock a preacher, even ridiculing their message as one of gloom and doom, but I guarantee that every soul that has ever lived will eventually abide in one of two places. They will either inherit eternal life, or eternal punishment, and it all comes down to repentance and belief of the truth of scripture. This is why the disciples were continuously warned not to be deceived.
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,” 1 Corinthians 6:9
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7
It’s very easy for someone to deceive themselves when they openly lie and deceive others. The Lord killed Ananias and Sapphira for lying to Peter, and those who choose to do the same things are going to reap the Lake of Fire.
Revelation 22 ¹⁴ Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. ¹⁵ For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Revelation 21 ⁷ He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Some people who began the Christian Life will eventually abandon their faithfulness to its teachings. Rather than remaining obedient and loyal to the things that they have been taught, they will be completely deceived and led astray by the devil. At that point the love of God doesn’t rule their heart anymore.
1 Timothy 4 ¹ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; ² Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
When people don’t care about lying and deceiving others, they certainly don’t care about abiding in the truth of scripture. After all, Jesus is the truth, and those who promote and put forth lies are against everything that He is.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
Some people actually believe that they are walking in the light, but the truth is that the light that is in them is actually darkness.
“Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.” Luke 11:35
Liars shall not escape the Judgment of God.
“A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.” Proverbs 19:5
“For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.” Psalms 59:12
It’s better to be completely broke in this world, but filled with the wealth of integrity.
“…a poor man is better than a liar.” Proverbs 19:22
Many people claim that God is their Father, even praying the Lord’s prayer. But people who openly deceive and lie to others are not the children of God. They are a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and their father is the devil.
John 8 ⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. ⁴³ Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. ⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
To truly love Jesus is to love the teachings of scripture, which through faith, will propel us into a life of loving obedience to His will and purpose for our lives. It is through humble submission and belief of the truth that we can eventually become sanctified and prepared for God’s coming Kingdom. Those who are involved with lies and deceit are going to reap the eternal wages for their own iniquity. God will punish them forever, which is a just reward for all those who have chosen to love a lie, rather than…..
