Winning Husbands to Christ

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from 1st Peter.

1 Peter 3 ¹ Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; ² While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

³ Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; ⁴ But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. ⁵ For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: ⁶ Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

In this passage, the Apostle Peter addresses how a wife can win her husband to Christ Jesus. First of all, Peter speaks about subjection, which is a word that seems to have disappeared from off of the map of many people who profess to follow Christ. Subjection is the act of bringing something, or oneself under the complete control of somebody else. It is to submit and obey the will of another. Moses is an example of a man who was in complete subjection to the will of God. When we obey God in such a manner, it pleases Him completely. When a wife is in subjection to her husband, it not only pleases the Lord Jesus, but your husband too. It’s a double benefit! If a Christian woman desires the salvation of her husband, it begins with subjection to the will of God.

Ephesians 5 ²² Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

²³ For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. ²⁴ Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing

A husband is the head of his wife and family, and has been ordained by God to this position, and it is offensive to the Lord when a wife or anybody else for that matter, comes in between him and his command of his home. Many women in false Christianity claim that they don’t have to submit to them, but those who choose to rebel and resist God’s authority figure in the home will only reap the Lake of Fire. Those who laugh at that now, shall weep later.

Romans 13 ¹ Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

² Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

When women are not in subjection to their husbands, it’s impossible for them to obey God. He that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If you cannot love and obey a husband whom you have seen, how could you possibly obey God whom you have not seen? If you truly love God, you will obey Him, and if you truly love your husband, you will obey him, so as the Apostle teaches, be in subjection to your own husbands!

The Apostle continues on to teach that if any man obey not the word of God, he can be won……without the Word. Why does he make this statement? It’s because women are forbidden to preach and teach God’s Word in any capacity, especially to their own husbands. Many women in false Christianity do this all the time, but it’s because they believe in a false Jesus. (It’s not our precious Lord who is found throughout the teachings of Holy scripture.)

1 Timothy 2 ¹¹ Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

¹² But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

A woman can win a husband to Christ by her chaste conversation coupled with fear. To speak to your husband in a chaste manner is to have a conversation with him that reveals how much you truly love him from your heart. You have become his bride and you belong to him, forsaking all others. Her speech is filled with virtue, revealing the purity of her heart and her great love towards him each and every moment of the day. To win a husband to Christ, she must love him dearly and with a perfect heart, being filled with meekness and kind affection for the lord of the house.

She also must also possess fear and reverence for her husband, otherwise she will never truly obey him. 

“…..and the wife see that she reverence her husband.” Ephesians 5:33

To revere is to regard with fear, mingled with respect and affection. How would you treat a judge in a courtroom? How would you address a king from a foreign land? This is the same attitude that a wife must possess towards her husband. She may love him, but she also must fear Him, knowing that he is God’s authority in the home. When she fears him in the proper manner she will obey him perfectly, as a humble child who does everything that they are told. This is great for the children to observe because they will learn how to fear God by watching their mother fear and revere her own husband. 

Like a young child who obeys their dad and gets permission to do other things, sometimes an unbelieving husband will allow his wife to go to a church gathering. When she returns and humbly serves and obeys Him, there is a good possibility that he will become interested in your religious beliefs. He might ask, is that what they teach you over there? And that is when you smile at him and ask him if he would escort you the next time that you go. Not only that, but there are countless good deeds that you can do at home in order to show the love of Christ to your spouse. I wouldn’t waste time doing things that really don’t matter to him. For example, spending the entire day cooking a meal that he really didn’t want in the first place. What I mean is, it may be special to you but not to him. Charity is about thinking of the needs of others, and if you want to win him, you need to do what he wants. If he has expressed something to you such as fixing his pants, painting the living room wall, or even cleaning his rifles, these are things that matter to him and will go a long way towards reaching his heart. If you don’t know what he wants, ask him for a list, and tell him that you want to help him out anyway you can. After all, women were created as helpers of men, so walk in your calling! When you love him and help him with whatever he needs, it can provoke him to start seeking God.

Above all, remember that a husband is God’s authority in the home, and she must never resist him, otherwise God will resist her. 

“……be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5

There is something to be said about a loyal woman, who stands by her husband’s side through thick and thin. That is the kind of behavior that earns respect in the sight of a husband. Departing and divorcing them only brings about a woman’s shame and defiles both her heart and her faith. When she abides faithfully with him, she can play a big part in her husband’s salvation. 

¹⁶ For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband?

If this is your desire, then serve him, obey him, love him, fear Him, and pray in secret for him. God rewards humble.obedience, and women who abound in these qualities have taken great steps forward,…towards…..
