Dead End

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many years ago in the middle of the winter, I took a drive in my van out to a nearby well in order to get water for the next month. After filling up all of my jugs, I began heading for home, but somewhere along the way I noticed a road that I had never driven down before. I could tell that it had just been plowed and looked in pretty good shape, so I decided to see where it went. I was driving along at a pretty good clip, when I suddenly noticed a huge pile of snow on the road in front of me. To my complete shock I came to the quick conclusion that it was a dead end, but by the time I hit my brakes it was too late, and I drove headlong into the snow bank and partially into the ditch.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Not every road that you take in this world is going to end up at the destination that you desired, and such is the path to eternal life. There is only one road that will lead us home to heaven, and all of the rest will only lead to a dead end.

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12

Sin can really deceive somebody, and even make them feel like they are doing the right thing, but the entire time it is the wrong path to take. It seems right, it feels right, it looks right, but the truth is that it’s all wrong! People can become so set in their manner of living that it becomes second nature to them. They begin to use the world as a reference guide, believing that if everybody else is doing it, then it must be okay, but this is where the world begins to deceive them. They start convincing themself that they will find happiness if they only live the same way that the world does, but when this happens it is like a fish striking hard at the bait, as the world grabs a hold of them, hook, line and sinker. When you step too far into the world, it can start to swallow you up like quicksand, and you won’t even see it happening until it’s too late. Like the talons of a predatory bird grabbing its prey, the world wants to devour the souls of men, leading you away from the light of God’s Truth, into the darkness of lies. It may feel like you are on the right road, but it is a dead end, one that will only lead to sorrow and destruction.

Matthew 7 ¹³ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: ¹⁴ Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Many people in this world will choose to follow their own heart instead of Christ Jesus, but when they do this, they are trusting in something that is extremely wicked.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9

The heart of man cannot be trusted at all, otherwise you will only deceive yourselves. This is why our hearts must change by trusting in the teachings of God.

James 1 ²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

We must not allow our own hearts to lead us astray from the will of God, by lusting after evil things.

1 John 2 ¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

¹⁷ And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

The deeper you get involved in sinful living, the harder the heart will become. It will begin to grow cold and callous, completely unaffected by the wickedness that surrounds us every day. Like fingers without gloves on a cold winter’s day, the heart will become numb to all feelings, ripping you away from God’s open arms of Truth, and right back into the lies of this world

“But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:13

A person can deceive themselves, or be deceived by others, just as the devil did to Eve in the garden of Eden. This is why you need to surround yourself with others who call on the name of the Lord out of a pure heart. Hanging around with the impenitent is utter foolishness, because it can corrupt your faith and values. To inherit the blessings of God, we must come out from the world, just as Lot came out of Sodom and Gomorrah. We must get off at the nearest exit from the road that leads to destruction, so we can begin to walk on the narrow path of Christ.

2 Corinthians 6 ¹⁴ Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? ¹⁵ And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? ¹⁶ And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

¹⁷ Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, ¹⁸ And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Those who continue down that wide road of sin are going to reap eternal consequences with God.

Galatians 6 ⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

“Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.”  Hosea 10:13

“Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.” Job 4:8

Sin is very deceitful, and will attempt to convince you that you are on the right road, but this is exactly the reason why we must constantly check our faith by looking into the Spiritual map of Holy Scripture. We must depart from iniquity and from everyone who refuses to repent of their wicked living. Remember that the wages of sin is death, and the only thing that people are going to find going down that road, is a…..
