Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
During my lifetime, I have made numerous trips to the Boundary Waters, which are found in the northeastern section of our state. I have always enjoy the beautiful and scenic area in this quiet and panoramic part of the country. It’s exactly everything that it is claimed to be, a complete wilderness, found deep within the Northern Minnesota woods. It is filled with pristine Lakes, rivers and streams which are the primary means of travel through the area. The boundary Waters are aptly named, as they create a natural boundary through a series of lakes that extend almost 150 miles along the international border. On certain occasions, I have been very close to the Quetico, which is the Provincial Park on the Canadian side of the lake system, but if you decide to canoe through this area, sometimes the border is not always clearly marked, and there have been people who have unintentionally drifted into Canada by mistake. Even though you are boating, you must keep on your side of the border, and respect what belongs to Canada.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Many people who profess Christianity have done the same thing, by floating out into the world rather than adhering to the Spiritual boundaries that are set forth in the teachings of Holy Scripture. Like a child that needs to be rebuked to keep on their side of the property line, people need to repent of what they are doing by getting back on God’s side of the border.
“Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:17
There is a perimeter fence that is established throughout the teachings of God’s Word, creating an everlasting boundary between what is right and what is wrong. It is a barrier that we must respect in our conscience if we are going to become pleasing unto God. It is a border that limits and confines us to a Spiritual way of living, an everlasting line that we should never cross over. But throughout the centuries, many people do not like to stay on their side of the line, and have ventured across the border of morality. In doing this, they are provoking the Lord to anger and beckoning His authority to mediate correction upon them.
Ephesians 5 ⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. ⁷ Be not ye therefore partakers with them. ⁸ For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:.⁹ (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) ¹⁰ Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
When people get involved with sin, it is to overstep the boundaries that have been set forth in the teachings of scripture. In the carnal nature, many people don’t like to be confined to one area, and consider it a lack of their own freedom and Liberty. But true freedom from our sins can only be obtained through sincere repentance and humble service and submission to the restrictions of God.
John 8 ³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. ³⁵ And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. ³⁶ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
The constraints that are placed upon us through scripture are established so that we can live a good life! God wants to bless us, but that requires obedience to His will and purpose for our lives. God grants us an incredible gift of His grace, but we must never neglect this divine treasure. We must always abide in the doctrines of our faith by remaining inside.of our Heavenly boundaries, and keeping on God’s side of the fence.
1 Timothy 4 ¹⁴ Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. ¹⁵ Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. ¹⁶ Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
Rather than abiding faithfully in Christ, a lot of people have climbed over the wall of biblical truth, and joined up with the world instead. They are like a fisherman who rather than remaining on their side of the lake, they will venture across the border seeking to find a better spot to fish. These same types of people are running all kinds of false churches today. Rather than holding firmly to the traditions contained in Scripture, they have jumped over the fence and embraced the customs, teachings and philosophies of this wicked world. This is to be expected when the devil is at the helm of their vessel, navigating them across the border of Truth, and shipwrecking their faith on the rocks of disobedience.
1 Timothy 1 ¹⁸ This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; ¹⁹ Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
Those who desire eternal life must stay on their side of the border, which is done by keeping separate from the world and all of its ways.
2 Corinthians 6 ¹⁴ Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? ¹⁵ And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? ¹⁶ And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
¹⁷ Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, ¹⁸ And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Remember that someday soon, there will be an eternal border, one that nobody will ever be able to cross again. Someday the sheep will be separated from the goats forever, divided by the boundary between paradise and eternal damnation, so you will have to decide what your response is going to be on the topic of repentance.
Will you lovingly submit to the will of God? Will you continually abide in the teachings of scripture? Are you the type of person who will make sure to keep on your side of the border, the next time that you visit….
