Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Dynamite it’s a very explosive material that has been used for hundreds of years for mining and many other different applications. It is made up of nitroglycerin absorbed in porous material and often contains ammonium nitrate and cellulose nitrate. Although a stick of dynamite is harmless by itself, once you strike a match and light it, you are heading for an explosion.
This reminds me of the Christian Life
Some people have had parents who really cared less about the way that they lived their life. When they did something wrong, rather than being upset, their parents were overly permissible about their disobedient behavior, but don’t ever confuse their lack of correction for the way that God is. The Lord Jesus is very meek and mild, but those who choose to live in disobedience, are going to light the fuse of his anger and encounter the explosion of His wrath.
John 2 ¹² After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days. ¹³ And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, ¹⁴ And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: ¹⁵ And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
¹⁶ And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise. ¹⁷ And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
We live in a day and age that is quite different than 2000 years ago, when our precious Lord Jesus came to the Earth to save us. At that time, people were flocking to His presence and repenting of their sins, but a lot has changed since then because many people who claim to be Christian today have no fear of God whatsoever. A lot of this is probably driven by there own parents who coddled them rather than sternly correcting them when they wandered off of the path of truth. Rather than rebuking them when needed, they pampered them by treating them with extreme and excessive care and kindness. The Apostle Paul was an extremely humble man, but if the church wasn’t going to respect the gravity of the letters that he had written to the church, you were going to meet another side of Him.
2 Corinthians 10 ⁷ Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s. ⁸ For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: ⁹ That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.¹⁰ For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. ¹¹ Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
¹² For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
Many people sit in a pew religiously each week, or wear a cross around there neck, but belief in Jesus is determined by obedience to His will. Many people can quickly quote John 3:16, but those who choose to reject the teachings of the New Testament, never really believed in Him in the first place. Humble submission to His will is the proof that you love Him.
John 14 ²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. ²⁴ He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
Although our Lord is incredibly meek, those who choose to rebel against Him will be punished severely. Heaven is a reward for His faithful children, but those who resist wil be cast into an everlasting lake of fire. Eternal life and eternal damnation are a result of the justice of God.
Romans 11 ²² Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
This is why me must be doers of God’s Word, because those who resisted the Apostle Paul, would not be spared
2 Corinthians 13 ¹ This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. ² I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:
James 1 ²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
God’s Word is a lamp, guiding us to heaven, but those who reject it will reap the toll of their consequences It’s amazing how much damage that can be caused, simply because somebody chooses to light off…
