Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of Scripture from the book of Mark.
Mark 3:31-35 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
There are two different families in this world, ones that are related through the flesh, and others who are related through the Holy Spirit. Relatives of the flesh will only last for a short period of time here upon the Earth, but those who become a part of the family of God will never perish, and will be able to live with each other forever in Paradise. For all those who want to become a part of this family, you must be converted to the teachings of Jesus Christ. All of us were once children in the flesh, and grew each day in Earthly knowledge, but in order to live forever in the coming kingdom of God, we must become children all over again, but this time we must learn the wisdom of God, found throughout the everlasting teachings of Christ Jesus.
Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Just as we were children in the flesh, we must become new children in our hearts, reborn in the Spirit, and transformed through the belief and application of God’s Holy Word.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Being born again is not a one-time event, it is a day by day experience as we mortify the sinful deeds of the flesh, and put to death the sinful person that we used to be.
1 Corinthians 15:31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
To be born again is when a sinner turns from darkness to walk in the light. To be born again, one must become lovingly obedient to the will of God. To be born again is to change from the old person that you once were, into the person that God wants you to become. It is a process that begins with a rebirth through faith in Christ, and a daily transformation from a sinner into a Saint.
John 3:1-7 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Many people who profess Christianity claim to be a part of the family of God, but the Christian Life is much more than just lip service.
Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Many people might claim to be a Christian, but that really doesn’t mean anything at all unless you love the Lord Jesus enough to become doers of his will.
James 1:21-25 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
When we grow up in an Earthly family, we must listen and obey our dad as he commands and instructs his own household. After all, we are the children of his flesh and we are his seed. But in order to obtain eternal life, we need to be reborn through faith in Christ Jesus. When this happens, we have a new Heavenly Father, one that we must learn to honor, obey, and please in everything that we do.
Luke 11:27-28 (KJV) And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
When we make the decision to follow Christ Jesus, we will have new Spiritual relatives in the faith, something that Jesus promised to His own disciples.
Mark 10:29-30 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Humbly submitting to the will of God is paramount for everyone who claims to be a part of the family of God.
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Many times our earthly relatives might be heading in the wrong direction, refusing to repent of their sins, and completely rebelling against the will of God. Some of them may hate you, persecute you, and even cast out your name as evil. But we can be assured that if we abide in the truth of scripture, God is going to guide us into new relationships, ones that will never fade away. We just need to be born again in the Spirit and become children once again, striving to serve the will of God as a part of His…..
