Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
There are many places of authority in this world, from kings, presidents, or even a dad in his own home, but they can’t be everywhere at once, and most of the time they have an extremely busy schedule. Sometimes they will send out a proxy, which is somebody who acts as their representative in diplomatic matters. A king from a foreign land might not be able to be present at a special ceremony to sign an important document, so the proxy will stand in on his behalf. They will act with the full power and authority of the king, even though they are not the king themselves. The government might send an emissary to a foreign land, who acts as a representative for their country and its policies. A county sheriff will dispatch deputies, who represent him and his authority, when he is occupied with other things. A businessman might send out his son to check on things concerning his business, and give him the power and authority to do whatever needs to be done.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
For thousands of years, God has sent certain men into this world as His representatives, from the prophets of the Old Testament, to the Apostles and disciples in the New. They are the messengers of Christ, who bring the doctrines of our faith to this lost and sinful world. They come with His authority and the power of the Lord, as ambassadors for Christ and the Divine proxies of God.
John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
There have been many men who have been sent by God, one of which was John the Baptist, who preached the baptism of repentance.
John 1:6-8 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
But there were some people who didn’t believe in John, or the message that he was preaching, completely rejecting the authority that had been placed in him by God.
Matthew 21:23-32 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him? But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
Many people claim to believe in Jesus, but if that were the case, they would believe in the ones whom He has sent.
John 6:28-29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
John 5:38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
Moses was a man sent by God, who wrote about the things concerning Christ Jesus. Certain Jews claimed that they believed in him, but the truth is that they really didn’t.
John 5:45-47 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
To believe in Jesus is to believe in the servants that He has sent into this world. To receive them is to receive Christ.
Matthew 10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
But rather than welcoming them with open arms, some people in this world will hate them instead.
Luke 11:49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
The Word of God was written by many different men who were filled up with the one and selfsame Holy Spirit. The servants of Christ will all speak the same things, as they preach the exact same message that has been communicated for thousands of years. Those who are sent by God will be filled up with the same works as Christ Jesus.
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
The Apostle Paul understood in his heart what he was and what God had called him to be.
1 Timothy 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
Those who Minister God’s Holy Word, are an ambassador of heavenly things, speaking the things of Christ Jesus in His stead.
2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
Ephesians 6:19-20 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
There are many people who claim to follow Christ, but refuse to believe in the servants that He has sent. If they cannot believe the messenger, then they dishonor the one who sent them, for they are the ambassadors of Christ, and His……..
