The Wonder Washer

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

For the past twenty years, our family has lived completely off of the grid, and whenever we have needed some clean clothes, there have been many times that we have washed out a few items in a four gallon bucket. But one year, I purchased a manual washing machine called the Wonder washer, which was made out of plastic and looked like a small propane tank. When you were ready to do laundry, you would open it up, fill it loosely with dirty clothes, add some hot water and then tightly seal the lid. After setting it in its pre-made stand, you would hook up the handle, and just like turning the crank on an old model T Ford, you would begin spinning it around on its axis. After a minute or two, you could go find something else to do, but then return later and repeat the process as many times as you wanted to. When you were finally done, all you needed to do was rinse them out, wring out the water and hang them up to dry. It worked really well and I was actually amazed at how clean that the clothes got.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

It’s always nice to step into a clean pair of clothes, but they need to be washed out first. In order to obtain eternal life, we must be transformed from sinners into Saints, but just like dirty clothes, our hearts must be cleansed from the filth of our sins, and washed in the blood of Christ.

Revelation 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

It is clear from the teachings of scripture that all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Even the Apostle Paul was born and raised as a Jew, but later referred to himself as the chief of sinners. Listen to what the prophet Isaiah said about our sinful condition.

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

A lot of people might think that they have never sinned, but if they were to be honest with themselves, they would accept the fact that they have done something wrong during their life at one time or the other. All of us are under sin, Jew and gentile alike.

Romans 3:9-24 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

It is unrepented sin that prevents us from entering eternal life, which is why Jesus taught that people needed to repent or they would perish.

Luke 13:2-3 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

God has provided us with the way to be completely cleansed from our iniquities, and it can only be found when they place their faith and trust in the blood that Jesus shed for us on the cross.

John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

It is only through partaking of his sacrifice, that we can find complete remission for our sins.

Matthew 26:27-28 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Ephesians 1:7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Even though we are dead in our trespasses and sins, we can find forgiveness through Christ Jesus. He loved this world so much that He shed His own blood so that those who turn away from their iniquities, and serve him with a pure and obedient heart, can someday obtain eternal life in Paradise.

John 6:53-56 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Each of us has been deceived by the teachings and philosophies of this world, but we need to turn away from them and mature in the teachings of Christ Jesus. The Lord shed His own blood for our redemption, washing us from our sins so that we could become transformed into His very own obedient children.

1 Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Colossians 1:12-14 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

In order to put on a new clean pair of clothes, they must first be washed, and in order to become a new creature in Christ Jesus, our sins must be washed away through the blood of Christ. By the grace of God, each of us can obtain eternal life and be transformed from sinners into Saints, but we must render our hearts to God and wash them in His blood, just like tossing our dirty clothes, into…..
