Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a little question.
Have you ever been walking in the woods but then suddenly lost your sense of direction? Everything looked unfamiliar around you and you really didn’t know which way to go. Well, this same type of thing has been known to happen to people while out in the desert. Some travelers have gotten completely turned around due to the shifting sands of the landscape. A dune sea is exactly what the name implies, a huge sea of sand dunes that are created in large areas that have little to no vegetation at all. As the wind blows, it will obscure landmarks, which makes it very difficult to maintain your orientation. Even in the forest, there are trails through the woods with recognizable features that can help you find your way, but out in the desert, it’s a completely different story. You could pitch your tent for the night, wake up in the morning, only to realize that you are surrounded by a completely different landscape.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
As we look out into the world today, things are constantly changing. Hairstyles change, the style of clothing changes, the mode of transportation changes, and the list goes on and on. But the worst thing of all is that people’s concept about the true and living God changes. We are surrounded by a sand dune of ever-changing religious philosophies, which is why we need to be so well grounded in the teachings of Holy Scripture. Like having a compass in the shifting sands of the desert, we will always be able to find our way when our lives are built upon the unmovable foundation of God’s Holy Word.
Colossians 2:6-9 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
The Apostle teaches us to beware, which means that you need to be very cautious of all of the Antichrist and false religious doctrine that is going on so prevalently in the world around us today. Their ideologies and teachings are not based on the truth of Holy Scripture, and many people will follow after them which will result in their faith becoming corrupted. They are like a clear pot of drinking water out in the desert, that eventually turns to mud because of all of the blowing sand. It’s no longer drinkable at that point, and has become spoiled and unfit for use. The same thing can happens when you leave food out in the heat for too long, and the only thing it’s good for is to throw it away. Well, the same thing happens to people when they believe the word of man, above the everlasting Word of God. They begin to believe their lie rather than the truth of Holy Scripture. The Apostle warns that this was going to happen to people within the church, which is why we must contend for the one true faith.
Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
As I have said for 25 years, when people refuse to accept the truth of biblical teachings, it becomes impossible for them to repent at that point. Even in the church, if somebody were to sin, they need to confess and admit their faults quickly to God and others, but the longer time persists, the harder the heart will become. In order to find Grace with God, the first step is to admit that the scriptures are true, and that they are in err, but when they refuse to do that, pride begins to set up inside of their heart, like concrete being cured. This is why there are so many false versions of scripture in the world today. People become so hard-hearted and arrogant that they have changed the teachings of God’s Word in order to make it fit their disobedient and rebellious lifestyles. These are the works of the devil, who has been trying to lead people away from obedience to God since the garden of Eden. But remember that when Jesus was out in the desert, the Lord resisted the devil with scripture, something that each of us must do, as we unsheathe the Sword of God’s Word.
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
So when people become deceived by all the philosophies out in the world today, they can never truly become the person that God wants them to be. They may still claim to be a Christian, but are no longer on the path that a Christian must follow. Believing the world over God is very dangerous, because without repentance, their soul will be lost. This is why the devil desires to turn you away from Christ and His Word. The devil doesn’t want you to become obedient to God, simply because he is an arrogant, impenitent, backslidden, disobedient reprobate, whose only intention is to deceive you.
Ephesians 4:14-15 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Like I said, the devil is a deceiver, and one of the ways they will do this is by changing up the landscape, and filling the world with the winds of their heretical false beliefs. This is why we need to be so well rooted in God’s Holy Word because it keeps us from getting lost in the sandstorm of this world. As this world changes around us each day, the Word of God will never change.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
There are so many shifting sands of philosophy in this world today that we need to make sure that our hearts are grounded in the teachings of God’s Holy Word. Like Spiritual footprints in the sand, God is guiding us on a trail through the desert that ultimately leads to eternal life. We can know that if we walk in the truth of scripture, we will never lose our bearings, as each of us traverse through the ever-changing landscape of…..
