Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a little question.
Can you keep a secret? There are many things in the US military that are kept top secret, which is the highest level of security clearance given to people who have been properly vetted and gone through intensive background investigation. If the sensitive and private information was released, it could cause grave damage to the security of the nation, such as intelligence operations, cryptography, and diplomatic communications. Many battles during World War II were kept top secret, so the enemy didn’t have any idea of what was going to happen, until the moment it was sprung on them.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Something that is kept secret is kept from the knowledge of others or shared only confidentially with a few people. Our prayer life with God is the same way, because the communications that we share with Him must always be kept top secret.
Matthew 6:5-8 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
There have been many large movements in society where people will go out and gather to pray publicly either in a school setting, or out on the streets of a city. Jesus warned about these types of people and referred to them as hypocrites. Someone who is a hypocrite puts off a false appearance of virtue or religion. Jesus commands His disciples to pray in secret but hypocrites won’t do this because they love to show their religion publicly to the world. Christianity is meant to be a very private faith, which is one of the reasons why people met in private homes. Nowadays people are seen praying right out in public places, posing for the cameras, shooting videos online, and the list goes on and on. Why do they do this? Because they disobey the commands of Jesus Christ. Obviously, they are enamored with the attention and love to be seen. This false form of Christianity will grow worse and worse right up to the tribulation, and it is the same kind of falseness that surrounded the Lord Jesus when He was on the Earth.
Mark 12:38-40 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,.And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
Jesus warned not to get involved with these types of people because all that it is is hypocrisy. It’s like a woman who puts on piles of makeup and then goes out in public for everybody to gaze upon. All it is is religious vanity run amok. Like I said, the church met in people’s homes, a very private setting kept out of the public eye. The Lord had Holy communion in an upper room of someone’s home, Jesus didn’t command His Apostles to go out and build these ornate buildings and massive expensive structures, things that are just religious eye candy for the sensuous. These places are more concerned about stained glass windows and their oak pews, rather than the poor person down the street. These are wicked people, who more than likely have women teaching the Bible and there’s nothing spiritual going on among them anyway. Keep separate. Each day it is becoming more and more like the days of Noah, led by a growing false Christianity that is spoken of in the Book of Revelation.
Nowadays with televangelism, cameras, and the internet, you will readily find people praying right out in the open. When the Lord Jesus prayed, He would go out into a mountain somewhere, and have solitude where He could communicate privately with the Heavenly Father. Many men of God in the Old Testament would do the same thing, heading out into the desert to have a one-on-one relationship with God. Nowadays you will see these people all over the news, and in many high places of authority, raising their hands and playing loudly for the whole world to see, an open display of their own self-righteous hypocrisy. The interesting thing is that God doesn’t even listen to them. As Jesus taught, God only rewards prayer that is done in private. Be forewarned that the devil is alive and well on planet Earth; keep separate! I’m sure he’ll clean out their bank accounts while he’s at it, but without repentance they will all end up in the lake of fire together.
Although prayer is meant to be secret, preaching the gospel must be done publicly, because if it wasn’t, people would never be converted to the faith. Prayer is a one-on-one relationship with the Creator of the Earth, and He most certainly will reward those who seek Him in this manner. Remember that hypocrisy extends far behind just public prayer, because people can do many types of things just to be seen. For example, clerics’ outfits and fancy robes were never commanded by Jesus, but many false forms of Christianity use them as a manner of displaying their own sanctimonious religion, just like the religious leaders of Jesus day, again, all it is is eye candy for the sensuous. Some of these same people are in high places of false Christianity, who think that repeating the Lord’s Prayer 100 times in 20 minutes somehow makes them holy. They will recite premade prayers over and over and over again, which is not only blasphemy, it’s stupidity. These are the same types of activities that go on in many false religions. I mean, how many people would sit down at the supper table and talk to their dad in that manner? Hi Dad, how are you? Hi Dad, how are you? Hi Dad, how are you? Hi Dad, how are you? These types of prayers are both foolish and absurd.
We are supposed to have a private and personal relationship with God. After all, the church is the bride of Christ, and any communications that we have with Him are meant to be private, just like the conversations that you might have with your own wife in the bedroom. During those moments a husband and a wife share communications that are kept out of earshot of their own children, things that are not supposed to be heard by anybody else.
Remember that God will reward those who seek Him privately in prayer, just as long as your conversations with Him are kept intimate, classified, and above all,….
…….TOP SECRET
