God is on My Side

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

How many of you have sat in the backyard on the weekend, and watched as your children played a game of football together. Perhaps they had invited a few friends from the neighborhood, but they realized that they were one person short. Suddenly your sons came running across the field and asked you to play on their team, pulling you out of your chair and leading you out to the huddle. But when they hiked the football, they gave the ball to you and because you were so much bigger than everybody else and you ran it all the way into the end zone on the very first play.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

It’s nice to have somebody really big on your side, and God is far bigger than anyone can ever imagine. Those who decide to repent of their sins and follow the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ are going to have the Heavenly Father on their side, and there is nothing in this world that will ever prevail against Him, both now and forever.

Psalms 118:6-7 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

Moses was an incredibly meek and obedient man, who rejected the things of the world in order to serve God with a perfect heart. He found great favor in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord was with Him. When we possess genuine faith in Christ Jesus, we will completely surrender our will to Him, in order to become obedient to His purpose. When we humbly submit to Him in this manner, He will reward and protect us.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Psalms 34:7  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

God rewards faithful obedience to the teachings of scripture. When your child obeys you with a meek and gentle heart, don’t you reward them? When their aim is to please you in everything that they do, don’t you reward them? It is no different with the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, because He will recompense blessings to those who humbly serve Him

Psalms 18:20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

Psalms 31:23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

At one time the Apostle Paul was trying to prevent the Christian faith from spreading, and was even putting people in prison. But eventually, his life did a complete 180, and he began preaching the faith that he once destroyed. When he repented, and meekly submitted to the will of God, the Lord stood with Him and protected him wherever he went.

2 Timothy 4:14-18 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The more that Pharaoh resisted His servant Moses, the more that God got upset. He brought chaos upon the head of pharaoh, bringing plagues and pestilence and punishments upon his family, his people, and his army. God is on the side of all those who obey Him out of a pure and humble heart.

Psalms 145:19-20 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

David pleased the Lord greatly, and when he fought the Giant Goliath, God was on his side.

1 Samuel 17:45-50 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.

And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

Look at all the suffering that Joseph had to go through, at the hands of his own relatives, and the false accusations of Potiphar’s wife. But he was faithfully obedient to the will of God, and God was on his side, lifting him up into high places.

Psalms 27:6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

God rewards obedience, and will rise up to battle for His chosen servants.

Deuteronomy 32:35 To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

Suffering is a part of the Christian Life, but when we patiently endure and submit to the will of God, He will always come to our rescue. When we serve Him with a faithful and obedient heart, He is watching, and will rise up out of His chair and win the game for us. So let all the children of God, who serve Christ Jesus from their heart, proclaim upon the mountaintops, that,….
