Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
When the military is concerned about a future attack, it will prepare itself to a state of readiness, changing the defense condition rating appropriate to the circumstances around them. From what I’ve read, when the country reaches defense condition 3 it means that the Air Force is ready to mobilize in 15 minutes, prepared and ready for action. This does not mean that the country is at war yet, but the military will get ready just in case it were to happen. They will cancel vacations and the troops are called back to their bases so that they are ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice. A heightened state of defense is needed in order to safeguard the country, and defend it at all costs.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
There are many wolves and false prophets who are canvassing the world and twisting and perverting the Gospel of Christ Jesus. But just like the Apostle Paul, men of God must be ready to go into battle and defend the teachings of the one true faith.
Philippians 1:17……. I am set for the defence of the gospel.
Somebody who is a defender protects something against attack, or they will argue and act in support of a particular thing or person. The Apostles were safeguarding the teachings of scripture and taking the appropriate measures to protect it from harm. Like soldiers standing guard on a wall, they would defend biblical truth at all costs, resisting the enemies of God and all the lies of the devil.
1 Peter 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
The devil wants to corrupt the incorruptible teachings of God, which is why you have so many perversions of the Bible in the world today. They have twisted the teachings of scripture, put them into a different version and published it as the Bible. I’ve heard it said that the Bible is one of the biggest selling books in the world, so all people need to do to make a pile of money is change a few words here and there, add some of their own philosophy or worldly teachings, change the things that they really don’t accept, and then all of a sudden, they have a bestseller. But those who pervert the truth in this manner are going to be cursed.
Galatians 1:6-10 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
The Apostle Paul was a guardian of the teachings of Christ, and when people were involved teaching contrary doctrines, he rose up to defend the one true faith.
Titus 1:10-11 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
The King James Bible was translated by 47 scholars, who apparently did their work for free. This is quite different than many false prophets who publish their perverted versions of the Bible in order to line their own pockets. There is only one true faith, and it is found inside of this book.
Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
The masses of people are going to follow false forms of Christianity, and it will progressively get worse until the return of the Lord Jesus. Unlike 2000 years ago when the Christian faith first began, it has become overrun by many false prophets and heretics, something that the Apostle Paul warned about was going to happen.
2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
The Apostle Paul was a soldier of God, and even when everyone else abandoned him, like David against Goliath he continued to fearlessly defend the faith.
2 Timothy 4:14-17 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:.Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
Out in the world they fight with carnal weapons, but the disciples were using the Sword of God’s Word to keep the enemies of Christ at bay.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Ephesians 6:11-12 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Remember, that like soldiers in the military, soldiers of Christ must be ready to do Spiritual battle and defend the one true faith against the onslaught of false Christianity. Take a good look around you, because now more than ever, we are already at……
