Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from The Book of Psalms.
Psalms 37:4-5 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Have you ever committed yourself to something? Marriage is supposed to be a commitment until death do you part. You must commit to your spouse through thick and thin, and abide with them through whatever storms may arise. Our God is a God of symbolism, and marriage represents the relationship that we have with the Lord Jesus. He is the husband, and the church is His bride. As a bride is supposed to be obedient and faithful to her husband in everything, so must we be to the commands and teachings of Christ Jesus. When we are baptized into the Christian Life, we enter into a marriage with Him, a commitment that we must abide in for the rest of our lives.
When we take a look at this word in the dictionary, commitment is defined as the quality of being dedicated to a cause or to a certain activity. It is to be devoted, loyal, and faithful to somebody or something. Another definition defines commitment as an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom or action. That’s exactly what the Christian life is all about. Rather than walking the wide road of the world, we are restricted to the narrow path that is set forth throughout the teachings of scripture.
Luke 13:23-28 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
When we commit ourselves to obeying the teachings of Christ, we can become pleasing in His sight, and the things that we might desire in our prayers, He freely gives us.
Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
To be committed to the Lord is to apply and dedicate oneself to obedience and service to His will and purpose. To be committed is very similar to the word abide, which means to remain in something, and to accept or act in accordance with.
John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
God rewards us when we diligently serve Him, which requires walking according to His will rather than one’s own.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Each day God is watching to see who is going to humbly submit to His will. He’s watching to see if people will repent, and turn from darkness to the light. When people do what is wrong in this world, they end up getting punished, either by their dad or other earthly authorities, but when we do what is right, even when we have to suffer unjustly, God is going to reward us. Think of all the suffering that Joseph had to go through, but God elevated him into high places. Look at the suffering that Moses had to go through, but he committed himself completely to God, and God raised him up to be a leader for Israel. Committing yourself to Christ Jesus is going to be greatly rewarded.
Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
When one of your children pleases you completely, and they ask you for something, don’t you consider going out and getting it for them? If they had a great year at school and they were on the honor roll, wouldn’t you go out and buy them the brand new bike that they have been wanting all year? If your wife really wants a brand new kitchen counter and cabinets, and she has obeyed you in everything, wouldn’t you install them for her? Even when you please your employer, more than likely they will elevate you to a higher position and give you better pay. I guarantee you for a fact, that when you submit to the will of God He will repay. When you enlist as a soldier of Christ, and commit yourself to preaching the gospel, He is going to reward you. Whenever we humble ourselves to His will rather than our own, He is going to lift us up, of that you can be certain.
James 4:8-10 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
As the Lord Jesus walked from town to town, He called out to men to preach the Word of God. He wanted people to get involved with the same things that He was doing, but many men were too preoccupied with the concerns of the world instead. The Lord wants men to preach, and there is nothing greater that you could ever do with your life.
Luke 9:59-62 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Jesus laid down His life for sinners so that through repentance and conversion they could prepare themselves for the kingdom of heaven. I enjoy life, but those who want to live forever will need to be fully committed to the will of God. Heaven is His dwelling place, and to abide under His roof, we need to abide by His rules. Each of us need to turn away from sin, and those who do can be guaranteed that God will show them mercy at judgment Day. He will reward you 100 fold both now and in eternity, as long as you commit yourself to serving Him from the heart. That is a reward that I cannot pass up.
Mark 10:29-30 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,.But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Perhaps you have always been obedient to a dad, but were never rewarded for your efforts. God is not that way. I’ve seen the rewards in my own life for serving Him, and it will come to pass for all those who do the same thing. God wants to bring things to pass, but you have to meet Him halfway. Show Him your obedience. Show Him your love. Show Him how much you care and desire to submit to His will, and watch what happens, because I can guarantee you, that His eye is upon all of those who make,…..
