Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to ask you a little question.
How many times have you been out working in the garage, when your dad saw you using a tool the wrong way? He might have sat you down and said, that’s not how you use that, and then proceeded to show you the proper way to go about it. Maybe you had a well-seasoned coach who had spent many years himself playing baseball. When he saw you swing at a pitch incorrectly, he approached you and showed you the right way to do it instead. Consider a fisherman who has been fishing walleye since he was a child, but when his grandchildren were not doing it the right way, what did they do? They corrected them so they could catch a big one! These are very simplistic analogies, but the point is that you corrected somebody, and then showed them the right way to do it instead.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
When your child is heading the wrong way in the grocery store, a lot of parents will correct them and point them in the right direction. Men of God are doing the same thing. When somebody errs from the truth, they are holding a belief that is mistaken and incorrect from the scriptures. Converting someone is to correct them from their wrong beliefs and persuade them to change their religious opinions.
James 5:19-20 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him, Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
A man of God is attempting to turn people from darkness to light, which can be very difficult to do, especially when they are believing a lie. When somebody clings tightly to a false belief, unless you can convince them otherwise, they will be damned without repentance. That’s how extremely important conversion is. When we first become a Christian, it’s like taking out all of the trash to the dumpster, because we must empty our minds from all the false things that we have learned from this world. Once it is empty, we can readily receive and embrace biblical truth without any worldly obstacles in the way
To err from the truth is to be mistaken and incorrect, insomuch that you believe a lie instead. What’s going to happen to people if they really believe a lie deep down in their hearts? They will die in their sins! This is why a huge percentage of the New Testament teachings are rebukes, reproofs, admonishments and warnings to the church. Why is this? Because if people don’t bring themselves into submission to the will of God through the knowledge of the one true Faith, then they are going to perish in their sins! Jesus died so we could have forgiveness, but we are expected to change from darkness to light and the only way this is going to happen is through a complete understanding of the will of God. This is where many people who profess to be Christian are going to come up short.
They think that because they have been baptized or had communion that they are assured a spot in heaven, but as we learn from the parable of the sower, that’s a figment of one’s imagination. Many people are going to attempt to get into heaven and will even claim Jesus as their Lord, but you know what, in the end they never loved the Lord enough to submit to His will. Rather than being a soldier of Christ day by day, they were weekend warriors who only sought God when it was convenient for them. They never studied. They didn’t seek Him. They never prayed. They never desired closeness with Him. They never grew daily in their faith. They never transformed. They never mortified the flesh. They never purified themselves. They never changed. They never became obedient. They never heard the Word of God preached regularly. For these types of people they are still abiding in darkness. The lights may be on, but nobody’s home.
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Why is it possible that a Christian can go to the lake of fire? Because they never truly loved the Lord enough to seek out His purpose, nor reverenced Him enough to walk according to His will. In order to gain access to paradise, we will have to hear those glorious words, well done thou good and faithful servant. Make sure that you take the appropriate steps to hear them, because God is going to punish unbelievers, and those who never obeyed the gospel through submission to scriptural teachings.
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
Our salvation depends upon our response to the true teachings of scripture. Obviously, you can never do the perfect will of God if you believe lies instead, something that false prophets want you to do. They don’t give a rip about you as long as you keep throwing money in the offering plate. The best defense against all the lies of Satan is a liberal dose of God’s truth! True men of God understand that unless you believe scripture enough to repent, people are going to perish. Once again, this is why there are dire warnings throughout the New Testament not to be deceived, or even to deceive your own selves.
Certain Jews believed that they were on their way to heaven simply because they were circumcised, but John the Baptist told some of them to bring forth fruits meet for repentance. Many people who profess to be Christian do the exact same thing today. They claim they are baptized and on their way to heaven, but they are disobedient, rebellious, and complete reprobates to the truth of the Christian faith. Even the Apostle James referred to the church as adulterers and adulteresses, scolding them for their behavior. Mommy might have given you candy even when you were bad, but God does not reward the wicked. People either change or they die, so do not be deceived. Time to grow up, people. Those who want to get to heaven must apply themselves to becoming a doer of God’s Word.
James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Each of us plays a part in our own salvation. What I mean by that is, you can either obey God, or forget about Him. You either submit to Him, or you rebel. But don’t ever think that just because you are baptized that you are going to be in heaven, because it’s going to take much more than that! Even the Apostle Paul warned Timothy of the same.
1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
To those who would listen, hear me now. Ignorance does not save anybody. Consider a huge fire that has engulfed a home, and somebody is trapped in the corner and can’t get out. There may be a fire extinguisher on the wall right next to them, but if they don’t understand how to use it, then they will die. To get to heaven, I repeat, to get to heaven you must understand the teachings of our faith. If you neglect this, and refuse to study and understand the truth, you will never be able to do the will of God from your heart. We must seek out God’s Word like rubies. We must seek out scripture like fine silver. If you really don’t possess that kind of heart towards God, then I fear for you.
Men of God have been sent into this world to save it, but you can’t save people who are too proud to change their false opinions. Humble yourselves in the sight of God and He shall lift you up. The Apostle Paul corrected Peter one time, and Peter realized that he had done the wrong thing, but he referred to Paul as a beloved brother. Don’t forget that It takes more love to correct somebody than to let it slide, so make sure that you are always thankful for the men, who have loved you enough to express their grave warning,…..
