Eye of the Hurricane

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

The eye of a hurricane is located at the center of the storm’s rotation, a place that contains the lowest barometric pressure within the entire storm. This is what helps storm trackers to follow their movements, as they pound across the warm ocean waters. Apparently, the eye can vary in size, from 20 to 40 miles in diameter, which is a large enough distance to begin disappearing from view on the horizon. Although the eye of a hurricane may appear to be calm and peaceful in appearance, it is a very dangerous place to be. This is because it can give you a false sense of security that the storm is finally over. But in reality, as soon as the eye passes, the eye wall will return which is the most deadly part of the hurricane. It’s been claimed that on the ground, wind gusts can reach over 200 mph, ripping up trees, tossing around vehicles and completely destroying homes.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Although many people will find a place of peace and tranquility inside the eye of a hurricane, it will be very short-lived. When they think peace and safety is coming, then sudden destruction cometh upon them.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 (KJV) But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

There are a lot of people who are living comfortably and without a care in this world, living their lives exactly the way they choose. They are experiencing a period of peace and tranquility, without any concern about what is coming in the future. This world is on a precipice of great suffering as we near the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. But just like in the days of Noah, much of the world is unconcerned about the storm that is coming, and when it eventually does, it will come on them quickly like a flood.

Matthew 24:37-44 (KJV) But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Like the eye of a hurricane we are passing through a very dangerous time of History, as people are filled with a false sense of security. They really believe that everything is going to be fine and wonderful, while the truth is that the worst is yet to come. Many of them profess to be Christian, but rather than getting themselves ready and keeping a keen eye on the Lord’s return, they don’t even bother to prepare themselves.

Matthew 25:1-13 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Just like an approaching eye wall, suffering and destruction is coming quickly. Just like the great deluge, it will happen so fast that people won’t even have time to escape.

Luke 17:26-29 (KJV)  And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

The affliction that is coming is going to be far worse than what has ever happened in history.

Mark 13:19-23 (KJV)  For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect’s sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

Luke 21:25-28 (KJV) And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Many people think the storm has already passed, and lulled themselves into a false sense of security, but don’t be deceived with all of the rest, because the truth is that we are only passing through the……
