Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
I happened to see a mud turtle crossing the road today, and the more that I watched it, the more that I realized that a turtle permanently abides in the protection of its shell! Although both its head and its feet will come out of the shell occasionally, they never wander too far away from the relative safety of their home. Some people actually believe that a turtle can swap its shell for another, but that is a common myth. God has placed them inside of that shell and sheltered them from all of the dangers of this world. A turtle has been given a roof over their head, so to speak, and they will need to continually abide in it, just like a woman must abide in the home.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Whether they are married or not, women who profess to be followers of Christ Jesus need to be at home, wherever that home may be. Her first responsibility is to remain in the home of her husband as she takes care of both him and his children. She may even stay in the home of her aging parents or other relatives, providing care for them in their later years. God created her specifically as a helper, and there are unending ways that she can do this in a home setting. She is a caretaker of others and the focus of her life is that of a homemaker, and aiding all those who dwell in it.
Titus 2:5 (KJB) To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Just as we beseech the Lord Jesus in our prayers, a woman can beseech her own husband and petition him with her requests. With great humility, she can humbly ask him if she could stay at home as a care provider, something that women did regularly pre-1850. His response is either going to be yes or no but whatever his decision may be, a wife must obey Him in everything. Sometimes a Christian woman will be commanded to go outside the home and get a worldly job, but if this is the case, the sin is upon him, rather than her. In this type of situation, she is free from the boundary of conscience, as long as she has asked him regularly in this matter. Remember that a woman must never take a man to scripture or teach Him God’s Word because that is forbidden. Men in the church were commanded to keep their women at home, but sometimes two people get married when they are complete unbelievers. During that time, a wife may be converted to Christ, while her husband still abides in unbelief. In that state, he may do many things contrary to the will of God, but she needs to submit, serve and obey him because he is the authority in the home.
Colossians 3:18 (KJB) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Ephesians 5:22-24 (KJB) Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
I think most everybody who knows me understands that I hold no animosity towards women whatsoever, but what I’m speaking about has everything to do with obedience to the will of God. If I had been born a woman I would have loved serving my husband with everything I had, but Jesus calls on men to preach God’s Word, not only in their homes but at bible studies and even at church services. But if a woman happens to become a believer, and her husband is not, she can win him to Christ through her meek and obedient service towards him. Just like pleasing the Lord Jesus, when you please your husband, many times they will grant your requests. Again she must never preach God’s Word to Him, because they can be won without the Word. This happens by her reverence, honor, and fear towards him, which are the same attributes that the bride of Christ needs to show our precious Lord Jesus.
1 Peter 3:1-6 (KJB) Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
Women were created as helpers, very similar to a home care provider. God’s role for them is clearly defined in the following verse.
1 Timothy 5:10 (KJB) Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
A woman’s primary concern is to provide for the daily needs of her husband and his children, but if she is not married, she needs to take care of relatives or others who are in need. But these are such sad and cruel times that we are passing through because nowadays parents want their kids to get out of the house as soon as they possibly can, and will even try to marry off their daughters to whoever will take them. This is because many of them want to go blow their retirement in the casinos and travel around the world, and completely forget about the judgment that’s coming. Many years ago, and even in other cultures, many generations would live together under the same roof and occasionally all the daughters would live at home for the rest of their lives. Young men would learn an occupation or trade from their own dad, whether it was farming, goat herding, or milking cows. These were all patriarchal and family-oriented activities, but these types of relationships are quickly being depleted from view simply because of people’s lack of submission to the teachings of Christ.
For you men who claim to believe in the Lord Jesus, you need to make sure that you keep your wife at home. As a Christian woman, she’s not supposed to resist your will, so as a man I implore you on their behalf, and the teachings of Christ to keep them at home so she can walk according to the purpose for which she was created by God. A Christian wife is not supposed to be a second source of income. She’s not supposed to be slaving for a paycheck and yoked up with unbelievers. Just like the birds have a nest, wives need to be in their element, keeping close to their home, and underneath the protection of……
