Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 55:7 (KJB) Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For those who want to receive Mercy from God, we must start right at the top of this verse and follow the things that He wants us to do. First of all, He says let the wicked forsake his way. Forsake means to renounce or turn away from something entirely, and renounce means that you refuse to follow or obey something; or, to give up and put it aside voluntarily. In order to inherit eternal life, one must abandon their own way of living, in order to follow the way of Christ. In the flesh, people can be very headstrong and obstinate, because they want to live life the way they want to, rather than listening to others.
Proverbs 3:7 (KJB) Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Many parents have endured rough times during their own lives and will warn their children because they don’t want to see them make the same mistakes that they have, but a lot of youngsters will reject their guidance and choose to do their own thing instead. They really believe that they are heading the right direction, while the entire time they are going the wrong way
Proverbs 16:25 (KJB) There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
One of the very first steps that you need to take when you become a Christian is to renounce sinful living, and make the decision to reject your own counsel for the council of God. In order to receive mercy from God we must first show Him by our actions that we are turning away from wicked living in order to walk in the truth. After all, this is the message that the Apostle Paul was commanded to preach by our precious Lord Jesus.
Acts 26:16-20 (KJB) But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
As I’ve taught for 25 years, many people claim that works have nothing to do with their own salvation, but these people are liars and false prophets. This is because they openly deny the teachings of the Apostle Paul who God chose to write a lot of the New Testament that we have today. The Apostle commands to do works that are meet for repentance, which means that if you claim to be repenting of sins, you are supposed to bring forth good works to prove by your actions that you have renounced the works of darkness. Those who reject this doctrine also reject the teachings of the Apostle James, who taught the same thing.
James 2:18-24 (KJB) Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
In order to receive forgiveness with God, one must first forsake sin by turning from the darkness to the light.
Proverbs 28:13 (KJB) He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
2 Timothy 2:19 (KJB) Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Psalms 37:27-28 (KJB) Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
To live for Christ we have to turn away from sin and subdue the appetites of the flesh, through self denial and mortification. This has to be done because the only way to enter into eternal life is by completely overcoming the power of sin.
Colossians 3:5-6 (KJB) Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
God does not forgive everybody because of their refusal to repent of their sins. Neither can we forgive everybody who refuses to repent of the wickedness that they have done towards us. The refusal to seek reconciliation with God and others is to abide in death as is taught in the parable of the prodigal son. But when the son finally took action to forsake his sinful life and return back home, his life was restored and mercy was granted.
Luke 15:18-24 (KJB) I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
Just like the father in this story, God wants to abundantly pardon each of us, but you must first take action in order for this to happen. He wants to see us turn away from the mud and the grime of our foolish living, and accept responsibility for our own actions. Mercy is waiting, but to obtain it requires doing something first. Like the prodigal son, you will need to pack your bags and humbly return to God, proving by your actions that you have given up the old life, by humbly acknowledging the truth, and completely,….
