Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of James.
James 2:10-13 (KJB) For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
Many people consider one sin worse than another, but the truth is that they are all equal in the eyes of God. Even in earthly courtrooms, they consider one crime more heinous than others, which is proven by their sentencing guidelines, but every sin is treated the same in the eyes of God. This is because they all will receive the same punishment, the eternal like of fire. Many people would look down on the harlots and publicans as extremely wicked people, but many of the religious leaders were filled with religious pride, which unrepented of, was a sin that would reap the exact same punishment. Another example is divorce, in which one of the parties will attempt to justify themselves by declaring that their spouse committed adultery against them. But during their marriage, it was their spouse who forgave them numerous times for other sins that they had committed against them. The thing that rips marriages apart is the utter lack of mercy, especially towards innocent children who had nothing to do with it at all. Divorce is a merciless act, and those who get involved with it or even encourage it, will be punished by God for their cruel and implacable hearts. It was allowed in Judaism, but it is forbidden in Christianity.
Matthew 18:21-35 (KJB) Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made..The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all..And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
In this passage, the servant cried out for mercy from the King, and was eventually forgiven for his debts, but when somebody asked the same of him, he refused to grant it. In the same manner, people want God to forgive them, but then they refuse to grant mercy to those who are seeking it from them. In complete hypocrisy, they will cry out to God in the Lord’s Prayer to forgive them of their sins, but refuse to forgive and reconcile with those who have asked forgiveness from them. God refuses to listen to the prayers of people who are this unmerciful. Occasionally, you will hear people say that they don’t feel forgiven with God, but it’s more than likely because they refused to forgive a penitent brother, and return to the relationship that they had with them in their past. When the prodigal Son repented, his Dad completely forgave him of everything he had done, and their whole relationship returned back to normal, just like it had been in the past. That is true forgiveness. I’ve heard so many wicked people claim that they forgive others in their heart, but then they refuse to be reconciled with them. Forgiveness without reconciliation is a lie, and those who are too bitter to let bygones be bygones will enter into eternal damnation.
Matthew 6:14-15 (KJB) For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Luke 6:36 (KJB) Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
Colossians 3:12-13 (KJB) Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Ephesians 4:31-32 (KJB) Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
1 Peter 4:10 (KJB) As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
All of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and whatever sin that a person has committed, they become just as guilty as all the rest. The law was put forth so each of us would become guilty in the eyes of God, which is why the only access point to heaven can only be found through the mercy of our precious Lord Jesus. So really when you think about it, there is no lesser of two evils, because the facts are that without repentance, they will all reap the same eternal consequences, because whoever keeps the entire law, but offends in just one point, is….
………Guilty of all
