Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
I grew up in a rural area, and when we were kids we did a lot of bicycle riding over our summer vacation. Some of our older brothers had motorcycles, and we wanted our bikes to sound just like them, so one of the neighbors showed us that you could take a few playing cards and with a couple of clothespins, attach them to the frame of our bikes. When the spokes on the tires rubbed against the playing cards, it sounded just like a motorcycle revving up. It was incredible how many people took notice when you came riding by, because our bikes were pretty loud. But we quickly realized that the more cards you added to the frame the louder that it got, it just depended on how many more of them that you placed underneath the clothespins.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
The more cards that we added to our bikes, the more we were heard, and the more of God’s truth that you add to your testimony, the louder your witness is going to be. The more that you preach against sin, the more you will stand out in this world, because the brighter the light shines, the more visible you are going to become.
Matthew 5:14-16 (KJB) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
The more fuel that you add to a campfire ring, the hotter it’s going to burn, and will glow brightly on a cool summer night. But a campfire can be seen a long way off, just like a lighthouse beam shining out into the darkness of the ocean. Our Lord Jesus referred to John the Baptist as a bright and shining light, who was a just and Holy Man of God who stood up against all of the darkness of this world. He wasn’t clothed with the garments of beauty and fashion, but with the inward vestments of Truth and soberness.
Matthew 3:1-6 (KJB) In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
John 5:35 (KJB) He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
Hebrews 1:7 (KJB) And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
When you are filled up with the light of the Holy Spirit, you will shine upon the deeds of darkness, just as Jesus does!
Luke 11:42-48 (KJB) But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.
Luke 13:14-17 (KJB) And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
The Earth is a battleground between what is right and wrong, and as a soldier of light, the Apostle Paul fought valiantly against the wicked works of darkness.
Ephesians 6:10-17 (KJB) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Those who are filled with the fuel of the Holy Spirit are going to shine brightly!
Proverbs 4:18 (KJB) But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
Remember that the more that you shine the light, the more visible you are going to become. After all, when you preach against sinful living in such wicked times it’s going to draw a lot of attention, like adding more fuel to a fire, putting fresh batteries in a light, or even adding a few more cards,…..
