A New Pup Tent

Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

Over the years, our family has done a lot of camping, and I always find it an incredible experience to get out into the woods and see the beauty of God’s creation. But when you spend many summer months living in tents, they will eventually begin to show their age. For example, after sitting many years in the hot afternoon sun, the fabric on them will begin to slowly bleach out, causing the tent to lose some of its color. You might develop a tear in the rain fly, or the zipper doesn’t work as well as it used to. You might even need to mend some of the mosquito screens so you can get a full night’s sleep! Tents are only going to last for so many years, because eventually they will become so frail that they simply begin to fall apart at the seams. But that doesn’t mean camping has to end, because all you have to do is go down to the sporting goods store and purchase a brand new one!

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Like an aging tent, our bodies are simply not going to last, but through faith in Christ Jesus we are presented with an incredible opportunity to go on living forever in the kingdom of God. Like picking up a brand new pup tent, scripture teaches us that someday we can inherit a brand new body, one that will never decay or grow old, and the pathway to obtaining it begins by becoming born again in the Spirit.

John 3:1-8 (KJB)  There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God..Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

So in order to enter God’s kingdom we must be born again. Like an old tent, our bodies are going to decay and grow old, returning to the dust from which they were created. It’s clear from the teachings of scripture that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, but if we want to live forever, we have an opportunity in Christ Jesus to do that very thing, but it will require faith and obedience to his will to inherit a brand new body that will never die.

1 Corinthians 15:35-58 (KJB)  But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Someday our old aging body is going to pass away, but those who have faith in Jesus Christ will receive a brand new one, something that I remember each time that I purchase…..
